Help with degree plan - Bachelors in Business at Excelsior
#21
KayV Wrote:What infuriates me on behalf of the OP is that this guy is USING OUTDATED DEGREE REQUIREMENTS, planning in courses that the OP actively does not want to take, and not mentioning the whole 6-hour Capstone situation.

Imagine thinking you have all but the Capstone done, trying to enroll, and finding out that the requirements have changed like that.

If I were the OP, I would ask for a refund.

Absolutely. Even if the whole plan was accurate and accommodating, it's still infuriating that he's charging for information that he essentially just took from this forum.

For myself, I "borrowed" from dfrecore. Generally, I wouldn't pay for something I can do myself as it's hard earned money...

Have you seen his TESU templates?

I've had a few people pay me for degree plans, but only because they needed a LOT of info (basically getting them up to scratch from knowing NOTHING about it) and they did not want to spend the time researching on this forum (believe it or not, not everybody loves to spend time on these forums - crazy, I know!) . I created plans for them, and then adjusted as I learned more about them. They seemed perfectly fine to pay, one even said I didn't charge enough.

So, I don't think you should be angry that someone is charging for something that people can get elsewhere for free. That would be like being angry with SL for charging ~$169 for Microeconomics when Saylor only charges $25. People can decide to pay for something (or pay more for something) if they feel like they are getting value for their money.

On the other hand, if you feel like he rips people off because he doesn't provide a good product, then that's another story entirely. I think it's ridiculous to charge people and then use old outdated info to give them, and not keep up-to-date on changes at each of the Big 3 schools and not keep up with new things that you can find out there (like Shmoop for instance) to make them more successful. I sent emails to all of "my people" regarding Shmoop when I found out about it, and told them where they could use the available courses in their individual plans. I also told them about the upcoming pricing change, and to join and finish the courses immediately if they wanted the credits at that price. I'll be Jay is not providing that kind of service for his customers!

How much is he charging for providing outdated plans?

Jay Cross posted on here years ago advertising to people who knew more than he did. He said that he has contacts with TESC (now TESU) who keep him updated on changes, but he wasn't updated on changes.

That's a fair point, dfrecore

I think there's a diffefence between what you've done and charged for and what Jay likely does. Jay seems to present it as some secret insider information that he's charging for, while concealing his source. I could be mistaken, I've never done business with him.

Sounds a bit different than someone willing to pay you for the convenience of the info they know is out there, but don't want to sift through.

On the bright side, Jay Cross appears to offer "Our Unbeatable DOUBLE Your Money Back Guarantee" so it's all good.

I am aghast at using an outdated plan. Just the 6-hour Capstone adds $1230 to the cost if you use the partnership pricing.

Only $300 bucks for outdated material? What a bargain!

And, he won't edit your plan to fit your preferences? The OP is getting a new plan here. That's $300 down the toilet.
