The test is multiple choice, like all, or at least most, of the other DSSTs.
If you're an IC member, go to
THIS page and scroll down until you see the list of DSSTs. The astronomy flashcards are the second in the list.
Again, if you're a member, you'll also want to check out the Specific Exam Feedback
thread for Astronomy.
Good luck with your testing!

When I took the exam - and it's been almost a year, so keep that in mind - the resources here and some freebies were more than sufficient. The tested subject matter is broad and not overly deep. It was also a strict memorization of facts with no application skills required.
The InstantCert flashcards and the specific exam feedback forum were the foundations for preparation.
I began with the DSST Astronomy fact sheet:
http://www.getcollegecredit.com/download...ronomy.pdf
...and some tips from here:
Astronomy DSST Study Guide - Free-Clep-Prep.com
...the free Cliff's Notes were helpful:
Astronomy - CliffsNotes
...as was the SparkChart:
http://sparkcharts.sparknotes.com/astronomy/astronomy/
(Sparknotes used to display the content online for free but it looks like they discontinued that. It's a 7 or 8 dollar investment.)
I also used Wikipedia on some specific subjects. Others used Youtube - that's a good idea, wish I had thought of it.
The Specific Exam Feedback forum was my most important resource, followed by the flashcards. Supplement with the free stuff and you should do fine.
