Help choose between the big three.

Need help to choose between the big three?banghead

I have a bunch of random classes back when i was at community college. Also took a year at ITT Tech that i'm not adding here, not sure if they will take credit from itt tech.

Well heres my main thing. I want the fastest degree (with the least amount of math) I can get. Ive taken ALEKS beg algb. int algb and hopefully only one more math class. I know beg algb doesnt count but i wanted to take it anyways. I'm also planning to take some if not most straighterline courses depending on what i need. So what school would be my best bet. I'm leaving for the military in august so I planning on getting most of my credits by testing. I just don't want to pay $75 three times to get my transcripts evaluated. Please help, those of you that already have a degree from one of these big three.

Hi there!

I would start off reading through this thread: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...Comparison

If you have a couple hundred dollars right now, it could pay off to have each do a transcript evaluation. I don't know if there would be a significant difference, but if one accepts more of your previous credits, that could help your decision.

Also, when you ask about fastest degree with the least amount of math, what do you want to do? Are you planning on a graduate degree? What do you have experience in? For example, I've been in the business world for years. A business degree for me would be faster than a different concentration just because that's what I've got most experience in.

If you can narrow it down to which degree you want, then you could do a side by side comparison of the requirements for that specific degree in each of the Big 3.

Don't pay for an eval 3 times, one eval is all you need- the purpose of an eval is to classify your credits if you don't already know their classifications.

Here is a generic eval. Meaning, it obviously depends on the school and your major and official transcripts, and the assumption that all of these credits are regionally accredited....blah blah blah. Also, your courses look very military - were you in the military? If so, DISREGARD my eval because there are a lot of people here who could help you better than I can. Military folks get credit for training, so that's a "whole 'nuther animal" so to speak. I don't know what ITT is, but if you have credit, certainly submit transcripts too.

I'm including your ALEKS math as well. You are likely DONE with math unless you are looking at a business/math/science degree.

One last thing, I'm usually pretty good with evals unless you throw in a lot of technical courses, computer training (because some is considered math and some is considered free elective), and physical education. You hit the trifecta of my weaknesses. That said, I'm about 70% confident on this eval. Take that for what it's worth..but it gives you somewhere to start.

My suggestion is to look at the GENERAL EDUCATION credits above. Use that as a template for planning your next CLEP or classes. THOSE are non-negotiable, meaning a requirement no matter what you "major" in. English Comp is English Comp is English Comp- and you need it. You'll notice I put some ### next to a few classes. These classes could be "demoted" into free electives, it's possible, don't be shocked if they are.

There are CLEP exams for each of your deficiencies, so you can test out if you want. Oh, one last thing. You have a lot of technical credit, that depending on your major, will become an elective. You can consider rolling those up into a technical degree or simply using them as free electives. If you use them for free electives, DO NOT take any of the FEMA classes, you'll have too many credits and they won't count.

Thanks for the help.

I think im going with ece, everything is laid out, no bad surprises, even told me to take straighterline english because they wont accept clep english for written requirement.

As for experience, I've been doing freelance and contract IT work for nearly 5 years. But I hate computer classes. I'm great with behavioral and social sciences class. Humanities are fine also. But I don't enjoy math, willing to take whats needed to graduate.

Don't know if it helps, but i'm planning on going the associate - bach - master route.

Have you taken any CLEP/DSST's yet? If I were you, I would take at least one test before deciding on getting your associates first. I ended up being able to do my tests pretty quickly and if I had gotten my associates first it would have been a waste of money. With all of the credits that you already have, if you can do 2-3 tests a month, it may be cheaper to go straight to a bachelors.

Of course, you'll need to do what's best for you, but I wanted to mention the idea because it could be cheaper.
