Has anyone taken Excelsior courses?
#1
Currently I am fulfilling as many requirements as possible with CLEPs, DSSTs and ECEs because they are quick and reasonably priced.

After that my original plan was to take the Operations Management (OPM 301-TE) and Business Policy (BUS 421-TE) TECEPs as my last two tests for my BGB in the spring. I enrolled at Excelsior college on 8/28/07 so I am allowed to do so. This is obviously the path that most of us in this forum are taking.

What I realized the other day is: I work at a really great company. I have been there for 3 years and I plan to stay there a while longer. I am performing well and I have no worries about my job security. They offer a Tuition Refund program that will refund me 100% for classes and books related to courses taken from accredited institutions if I get a 'C' or better.

So now I am thinking about taking the BUS 425 and BUS 495 and INL 102 as actual courses. If I go that route and pass I will save around $1,500. What I want to know is:

1) has anyone actually taken any of those courses? if so, what was your experience?
2) was there a lot of written work involved?
3) did the classes help you to learn the material and add value to your degree-getting experience or were they annoying speed bumps?
4) if you had it to do over, would you still take the 4-month classes or would you take the tests instead (which most people seem to report passing with about 1 month each of study time)?

For anyone who took the TECEPs, was your studying good enough or do you wish you could have taken the classes? Was the scheduling and test-taking experience good or a major hassle?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that might help me to make this decision.

Chris

I haven't been at this for long, but I have quickly learned that I am not getting any younger. (and neither are you by the way)

I recommend testing out and saving your time. Money will always come in, one way or another. You cannot however earn time.

Borrow the money, sell plasma, or sell your old clunker that you don't drive anymore, but get those tests done with and out of the way and you will probably be making more money than all of us. Smile

If you put off, you will regret it down the road when you are still skweaking by to get your degree. Skweak, skweak, skweak.

Best of luck...
