I realize that everyone tests differently but they've been great for me.
Did they actually have all the knowledge you needed for those then? My main 'experience' was that I studied their Marketing and Management stuff extensively, took the MS tests getting 100%, but as soon as I listened to the FCP audios found all these new facts that I hadn't learned under MS... which absolutely WAS on my CLEP tests.
Some tests might be better than others (it could be great to compile a list/comparison maybe?) but I got about half the information I needed from Modern States and their simulated test did not match the real CLEP very well on the two I test. (i'll make a note they are currently revising their Marketing material - I took the class still available in mid-December, which has since been replaced by a 'coming soon' class starting in April, the new material may be vastly superior)

We should start a thread to compare and judge the courses.
I only used Modern States English Comp and passed easily.
The Analyzing and Interpreting Lit course is the same instructor as the English course but it's super boring and the check for understanding is too far removed from the videos, I forget stuff.
I started taking US History and the homework questions do not match the videos AT ALL.

The information provided by MS was enough for me to pass and if I'm not mistaken, I think they have a direct relationship with College Board and TESU. They also had extra reading materials attached to both courses I've taken. I'm working on the Social Sciences and History course now so I can test in a week or so, will let everyone know if the material for that course is sufficient.

I don't know how long that will last but if you take every single exam that's potentially I think 81 free credits. Obviously, not all of them would fit into a degree plan!
The courses are composed of video lectures from professors, free online textbooks, and practice problems.
Also, CLEP recommends them under their Study Resources section.
I've been enjoying them and definitely recommend you check them out!
Has anyone else been using them?
Is there any time limit on free courses or limit on the number of courses one can take? Can a registered student go through all of the courses even if they don't get vouchers for some reason like they stop issuing vouchers, etc? Thanks!

My understanding is there will be no limit on how long you can take the courses for free.

I think A&I lit exam is just really basic. It covers things that most people already know and are capable of, so making a whole course for that would be tough. Overall the courses are solid. They mostly use openstax textbooks while the instructor covers the objectives in order and points to the relevant chapters after the videos.
I actually really disliked their english comp course, but I watched the videos, read the book, and watched the videos again, and I think it actually did a good job covering the material even though I just didn't mesh with the instructor. Principles of Management was awesome (another easy exam). Sociology and American Government were both good (haven't taken the cleps yet though). History of US I and II courses got me to pass both exams as well.

Is there any new info on this? How long does it take to do a course through Modern states? My niece is a fast learner but has a short attention span when bored so I was wondering if these would be a good test prep for her. I actually just learned about it from someone at the learning center at her college. It seems a great way to help defray the cost of the CLEP

The program is still up. My last voucher was numbered 62xx. The initial program announcement last August said there would only be 10,000 vouchers given out. It seems like theres still plenty of time.
MS is good test prep, but you definitely need more if you have no background in the subject. MS estimates that the courses take 24 hours. I'm able to breeze through most of the courses in 12 when I watch all the videos. If she gets bored easily, you could enroll her in 2-3 courses at once so that she can switch between them as she gets bored.

I've completed 8 CLEP through Modern States all for FREE. Great program, however you do need to use other materials to prepare. I buy old REA books off ebay for $4 or $5 delivered and use the disks with sample tests on them to prepare. I'm undefeated so far!
