I need English Comp 1 -2 to finish up an associate degree at a CC. Then on to most likely Excelsior. My question is do you think I should Straighterline Eng Comp 1 -2 and get them transferred in to my CC through FHSU or should I take the English Composition with Essay Clep. From experience what do you guys think?

I think if your community college accepts the CLEP English Composition with essay and will award you 6 credits...I would definitely take that instead of Straighterline.
I don't think the English Composition will be difficult for someone who is "well-versed" in the subject matter. I thought I could at least pass this exam and ended up scoring a 49 and I needed a 50 to receive credit. A year + later I found out from CollegeBoard that I actually scored a 50...they said it was a "scoring error."
Bottom line...check with your cc to see what score they require first and whether they accept it at all.
Let us know what you decide.
Hope this was helpful.

Don't feel too bad. Fortunately I scored a 50 originally and then a 51 with the scoring error corrected but it was definitely close. I think with the exception of very few CLEPs which are intensive and beyond the scope of most people such as Biology and Chemistry that CLEP should be the preferred method.

Be aware, though, that the CLEP will not count toward the Written English Requirement or for any credit at Excelsior. You'll need to make a second choice for them, like UExcel, if you can't find something convenient that works at both schools.
Let us know what you decide. I know there are other people in a very similar situation.

I also read this post the other day, which gave me the impression that Eng I is not transferring through FHSU anymore:

Be sure to check that carefully, too. The same post gave an alternative to FHSU.
Please let me know, if I am misunderstanding this situation.
