Hello everyone.
I just recently decided to switch my degree plan from the BSBA in General Management to the Bachelor of Arts in Communications. I just hope I have not shattered my hopes!
A question just occurred to me. I have taken 5 CLEPS thus far but they have all been in the Business/Management Section with the exception of 2: Intro to Sociology and Social Sciences & History.
I pretty much have the Free Electives category done using my FEMA credits but my concern is the General Education Electives category. Will TESC allow me to put the following CLEPS in the General Education Electives Category:
-CLEP Principles of Management
-CLEP Principles of Marketing
-CLEP Principles of Financial Accounting
I just hope that these don't just count for FREE ELECTIVES only. If that turns out to be the case, then I would have just taken these CLEPS basically for nothing. My predicament would then be (if this is the case) that maybe I should just stick with my original degree plan; the BSBA in General Management.
I kinda feel dumb that I thought about this after the fact, seeing as though 4 hours ago I sent an email to TESC stating that I wanted to change my plan from the BSBA to Communications. They sent me an email in less than 40 minutes stating that the change went through. Now it's a possibility that I might be changing it back. I just hope that's not the case.
Thanks in advance for your help.

General Education are classes/exams from Humanities, Natural Science/Math, English, Social Sciences.
I would think, with 95% certaintity, that those CLEP's you have taken would wind up under free electives.

Really? You are going to change your degree back and forth due to the applicability or lack thereof of 3 CLEP tests? If you want THIS degree so badly, then this small and very minor hiccup should not be factor.
The only exception I can think of is if you are only 9 credits away from graduating with a BA, and waiting another 3 weeks to take 3 more tests will cause calamitous ruin.
If this is the degree you want, cowboy up and stick it out. If it's not the degree you want, why did you change it?

Yes, they are free electives only. My major was business too so I only got to use 6 FEMA credits because all my management credits went towards the free electives.
Even so, as Joe said, it's no big deal really.

First of all, I can speak and spell. Where I got this gem from, I don't know:
certaintity. Replace that disaster with certainty.
Secondly, I believe the main interest surrounding FEMA credits is that they are free and obviously the CLEPs are not. If I were you, chalk up the free credits to having gained some additional knowledge in life and have the CLEPs applied to your free electives. At least you are getting something out of your money that way.
When I first enrolled in TESC, I flip-flopped a lot on my decisions. Today would be this, tomorrow would be that, etc. Now as a rule, I wait a week before I make a final decision on any academic change. There is so much information to process regarding degrees and testing out options that you really have to digest all of the pros and cons in their entirety before taking action.
Good luck in whatever degree you decide on!

Thanks everyone for responding to my post.
First...I decided to change my major because I know that trying to study for Statistics, Finance, and Precalculus are going to take too much time for me to study for and then CLEP or DSST them. I really don't have the luxury of time for I am on a deadline. And the only way I could take them as classes would be first to satsify the pre-reqs.
My plan is to be completely done with my degree by the end of this year so that I can work two jobs starting in January because I'm moving to Florida by the end of summer 2009. I want to finish school by the end of this year because I don't want to have to work two jobs and still try to worry about finishing my degree. I know that there are plenty of people out there doing it, I'm just not one of those people. I can't focus on too many things at one time...it stresses me out.
Although math is really not my subject, I do not have a math phobia per se. I just have to apply myself more than others once it comes down to it. If I wasn't on a time line, then I would have just stuck with the BSBA and finished it. I just believe that pursuing the Communications Degree right now will be easier in the short run. Because if I go through with an MBA program...the undergrad really doesn't matter.
The reason I was deciding on switching back to the BSBA was because I felt as though I just wasted 9 credits because of sheer stupidity. Had I followed my first mind, which was to finish my general education requirements first, I wouldn't have made the mistake I made. Granted I was not anticipating on changing my degree, but had I done the Gen. Ed first, I would have gained 9 credits instead of losing 9.
Technically speaking, even with the minor boo-boo I made, I still have 36 credits exactly for the BSBA and the Communications degree. So with that being said I really didn't lose anything. I wanted to utilize the full 27 FEMA credits to take care of the Free Electives category. And I broke even because the Communications degree allows 27 FEMA credits for the Free Electives category and the BSBA only allows 18. So there is my nine credits. But had I done what I was supposed to do...I would have 45 credits down right now instead of just 36.
At any rate, thanks again to you all for responding to my post. I knew that in essence I already knew what the answer was going to be, just wanted proof!
Thanks again for your help. Peace be with you all.

P.S: Just wanted you guys opinions. Do you think it really makes economical sense to get 2 undergrad degrees? For instance, which is better: if I get my B.A in Communications and my B.S. in Business Administration...or I get my B.A. in Communications and then my MBA?

Freedom of speech and all that. You should have the right to create new words at will.
Marshall,
Wendy's right on the money here. Nothing wasted. You learned about management, accounting and marketing. Those are all things you can use. That is a certaintity (new word, not really sure how to use it yet).
