Free Unlimited Telehealth, Counseling, and Coaching from Calbright (California Only)

Calbright is now offering free telemedicine services for enrolled students. This is great if you want to skip the co-pays on your health insurance to see a doctor or therapist. Additionally Calbright offers certs like Security + and A+ for free. They give you a free exam code once you complete their training. I think the coolest part is the healthcare though. This is for California residents only though.

Life can be tough; getting help doesn’t have to be. As an actively enrolled Calbright College student, you have access to The Virtual Care Group (VCG). VCG offers unlimited telemedicine (doctor visits/urgent care) and teletherapy (counseling, life coaching and on-demand crisis counseling) free of charge. What is The Virtual Care Group (VCG)?

VCG offers unlimited 50-minute behavioral visits with master-level counselors, life coaching, and on-demand crisis counseling to all currently enrolled Calbright College students. Board-certified physicians are also available 24/7/365.

How do I schedule consultations with VCG?

You will be taken to your VCG Dashboard when you click on the button above. You can schedule consultations using your online dashboard or by calling their phone number. Please note that you might be asked to verify your membership when calling, by providing your member ID. Your member (student) ID is available on the top right corner of your Student Portal screen under your account initials. Please contact success@calbright.org if you have any questions.

Why can’t I access VCG?

VCG is not available until 72 hours after you have completed substantive academic activity. This is done by attending Onboarding, signing a Comprehensive Student Ed. Plan (CSEP) and completing your initial course activity. Once you have made progress on your coursework, you should be able to register for VCG services. Alumni do not maintain access to VCG. I am no longer going to be a Calbright student, can I still access VCG services?

Unfortunately, VCG services are only available to currently enrolled Calbright College students. Students who have not completed substantive academic coursework, or who have completed their course competency, will not have access to VCG.

How much do VCG services cost?

VCG services are totally free for all eligible students. This service is offered at no cost regardless of whether you have health insurance. Students will never receive a bill or a charge to their student account for accessing VCG services.


When should I use telemedicine and teletherapy services with VCG?

Telemedicine are remote health services that can be used for an urgent care visit (non-emergency issue), when your primary care physician is not available, to refill a prescription, when traveling and in need of medical care, and/or during or after normal business hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
Teletherapy services are also remote offerings, but focus on mental health and can help with a wide range of conditions and issues, including; depression, anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, and chronic stress.


How many visits can I have with VCG?

VCG visits are unlimited to all current students.


Are my visits with VCG private?

Yes! Calbright College and its employees are not notified of student visits. Visits will remain confidential at all times. Laws are also in place to protect patients’ privacy. VCG is designed to be private, secure, and HIPAA-compliant, to allow students to safely consult with one of their therapists, psychiatrists, or physicians. Visits will remain confidential at all times.

Calbright is a California community college, but is not yet accredited.  It says it is "in the process" but that could mean anything. Tuition is free, and they seem to specialize in vocational certificates.

My first thought on seeing this is that, for some people, it might be worth it to enroll in a course solely to get access to the free therapy. And since there is no tuition (covered by state grants, apparently), this might actually be viable for some.

The Virtual Care Group seems to be a telemedicine service selling its services to colleges. They don't say how many therapists or physicians or counselors they have, but they are claiming "unlimited services" to students. That seems to me to be unsustainable but it will be interesting to follow.
