Free TECEPs Offer for Accepted-but-not-Enrolled
#1
I read in the forum that some folks got this offer for two free TECEPs in February, so I went ahead and applied to TESU. After not getting the offer within a few days of acceptance, setting up in the portal, etc. I emailed testing@tesu.edu to ask about it. As you can see in the following, the email text says "general education" TECEPs. However, in the "scholarship eligibility form" I am seeing the long list includes 3000, and 4000 course codes - which I believe is for upper level. Also, note that they say it is first-come, not need-based, and not guaranteed. I am also unclear on how long you have to actually take the TECEPs with this offer. So, I'm nervous about deciding which ones I will select. Even though it is less bang for the free bucks, I will likely do medical terminology and will look closely at my likely degree plan in combination with "easy" reports to choose the other. Everything I've read makes me think I will hate taking the TECEP: proctoring nonsense; small font for my old eyes; being used to predictive grammar and spelling assistance I won't have; inability to go back, even when asked to elaborate on previous questions; etc. Anyway, here is what they sent me when I asked for it:

***Below is our TECEP Scholarship email that was sent out.  Please make sure you complete the TECEP scholarship form in #2.  Just click the red “Complete” and it should take you directly to our TECEP Scholarship sign up link.

You have a 12 week term in which you have to take the TECEP. Here's the full email you get after registering for it:

Quote:Dear RJ77,

You will find information on your TECEP exam in Moodle (https://www2.tesu.edu/myedison/) along with the other courses in which you are registered. For your convenience, the University has added TECEP (TE) exams to your Online (OL), Guided Study (GS) and/or ePack (EP) course sections in Moodle.

The TECEP course has a 12 week term. Please check the course space for the last date to take your TECEP exam.

The new TECEP course space contains all the information you will need to complete your examination(s). The navigation tools are located at the top of the page. Highlighted below are links to the information on scheduling your exam, taking the Sample Exam, etc.

We recommend scheduling an appointment ASAP to get the day and time you prefer.

TECEP exams are offered in two different formats: online or pen/paper. If you choose the online format, you will be taking the exams with ProctorU, our OPS vendor, using your home computer and web cam. If you choose the pen/paper format, you will select a proctor that meets our guidelines and we will send the exam booklet to that person once they are approved.

If you select the online format, the TECEP exam link will bring you to the page below. The ProctorU proctor is the monitor. He/she will input the monitor name and password. You cannot progress from this screen unless you have scheduled an appointment with ProctorU and completed the identity verification process on your test day.

If you select the pen/paper format, you will complete the Proctor Request Form below. The completed form is submitted electronically and can be reached by clicking on the Everything you need to know about TECEP exams link. You will receive confirmation within several business days.

Once you break the seal on the test booklet (pen/paper version) or click the exam link with ProctorU (online version), you will be graded on the work completed. You cannot go back to complete the test at a later date. Make sure your schedule is free for the full allotment of time (2 or 3 hours depending on the TECEP) and your proctored setting (pen/paper version) or your home environment (online version) is quiet and conducive to taking a test.

If you have a question during the test, alert your proctor; if you have a question before or after the examination, alert the Office of Help Desk and Testing Administration at testing@tesu.edu or by calling 609/984-1181.

Best of luck to you!

Awesome, so current students or enrolled students aren't applicable... Oh well, I should get my cousins or wife on this if they want to. I'll let them know anyways.

It might be worth asking testing@tesu.edu to be sure. TESU did not explicitly tell me the criteria, and I see no language that pins it down in the email, nor the "eligibility" form. The form does say, at the top, "Some College but no Degree," but it doesn't ask the question, nor further explain. They have my associate's transcript evaluated and have not told me I am not eligible. I'd guess the form is old and has that no-degree "title" from some past campaign..? I mainly gathered from what I read here in the forum that they have recently offered this as a push to engage accepted-but-not-enrolled students in some forward momentum.
