From the previous posts, it looks like this would mean with the 3 TEEX Cyber Security courses, I'd be able to get 6 credits in computer related courses now rather than 4 in computers and 2 in business.
In 2014 or early 2015, they all already counted as CIS credits. If some are now CAP credits, then that's a recent change.

No, I totally understand what you're saying. My son was studying this (not me) and since it was a full semester class, I figured he could do all the TEEX and then we'd follow up with the DSST (not caring so much that it partially duplicated, just mostly for extra learning) but I had several people help me with gathering study info- and it was just overwhelming. I felt like the ROI for the extra time just didn't make sense (for us) because he would be learning it all. I think for those of you guys who already have job experience in IT or have certs, it's probably not that much "extra" but for us it just seemed like too much more climbing for 1 cr. (assuming he even passed!?!)

I am new to all of this and am a bit confused after reading all these posts. I am enrolled under the 2014-15 catalog at TESC and hoping someone can clarify the TEEX courses for me. Do any of them count toward the BSBA GM and if so, what TEEX numbers does the ACE 250, 251, 252 correspond to?
Thank you!

Like ALRS, I am also confused about the exact steps for getting credit for these free cybersecurity courses. The Texas Extension web page https://teex.org/Pages/Program.aspx?catI...ersecurity lists courses it says are approved by ACE for college credit. Which ones specifically does TESC accept, please? The names and courses numbers on that page do not match any of these:
TEEX-250 CAP-295 Intro to Security Basics
TEEX-251 CAP-385 Network Security
TEEX-252 CIS-244 Computer Security
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

The names TEEX uses are Cyber 101, Cyber 201 and Cyber 301. All 3 are available online and are recommended for credit by ACE. All courses within each category (cyber 101 etc.) must be completed for credit.

This might have already been brought up in the massive thread but I wasn't able to find it in the first couple of pages or with the search tool. Do these TEEX credits affect your GPA? I know the courses themselves are graded but I'm wondering if they appear on the ACE transcript as pass/fail just like the Straighterline courses.

I found the answer to my question.
TEEX-Cybersecurity Online Wrote:I don't know if it helps since the credits are not graded, but our program offers free cybersecurity classes and ACE credits.
TEEX Cybersecurity
These classes are made possible through a cooperative agreement between TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service) and FEMA.

pass/fail only.
Quick summary- there are 3 ACE evaluated courses, each worth 2 credits. TESC accepts all 3. Cyber101, Cyber201, Cyber 301
When you open the link, it shows 4 classes, but you will see that 1 of them is a face to face class, the other 3 are online- the online ones are the courses referenced in this thread. https://teex.org/Pages/Program.aspx?catID=231
Sign up, they are free, create an account and go. Easy as pie- self paced. Tests are open book, and you can repeat until you pass. If you fail too many times and it locks you out, send them an email (or faster to call) and they can unlock your account if you ask nicely.
Within each class are "units" or "mini-classes" listed under each class name that you have to complete with 70% or better. Once you do the whole set, you have finished the class and can submit to ACE.
Instructions on how to submit to ACE: https://teex.org/documentsresources/teex...credit.pdf
It looks like this when you hit the drop down menu- the class name is just a name, it's the set of AWR classes inside that course name that must be completed:
Online for Everyone - Non-Technical (Cyber 101)
AWR168Cyber Law and White Collar Crime
AWR174Cyber Ethics
AWR175Information Security for Everyone
Online for IT Professionals (Cyber 201)
AWR138Network Assurance
AWR139Digital Forensics Basics
AWR173Information Security Basics
AWR178Secure Software
Online for Business Professionals (Cyber 301)
AWR169Cyber Incident Analysis and Response
AWR176Business Information Continuity
AWR177Information Risk Management

where do these 6 credits fit into the degree plan (specifically TESC BSBA Management)? Will they replace the Intro to Computers CLEP, Or the DSST Mgt. Info Systems?
Just trying to decide which tests to remove from my plan if I do these. Also, do you think there is any fear of these losing ACE accreditation? I don't plan to enroll at TESC until summer 2016 - don't want a surprise!-DB

We used to know for sure what TESC transferred them in as, but lately it seems like they are changing that. Here's what it was at one point:
Cybersecurity for Everyone - CIS-299, fits in as NatSci/GenEd
Cybersecurity for Business Professionals - MAN-299, fits in as Management course
Cybersecurity for IT Professionals - CIS-344, fits in as NatSci/GenEd - DUPLICATES Fundamentals of Cybersecurity DSST (if the course number stays the same)
But, there is no way to know with absolute certainty what TESC will count them as when you apply. Since they're free, there's no loss except time if you take them. They don't replace the courses you mentioned, so you'll still need to take those.
