Free College Credit from TEEX!
The courses that let you pass with a 70% only allow 3 attempts for the post tests, but the courses that require 80% allow you to take the post tests 5 times. So maybe I am ok with a 70% on those. So confused right now.

happydayruth Wrote:If I remember correctly, it varies. Each course within a track contains several modules (as I'm sure you're aware of by now). Each module requires a 70% or 80% grade on the post-test in order for you to move on to the next module. It was kind of random, most of them required 70%, occasionally there would be an 80% required. I don't remember encountering anything that indicated an 80% average required for the whole thing.

You'll need to finish all of the courses within the track before requesting credit from ACE.

The courses seemed to be pretty fool-proof to me. You can't move on unless you get a high enough post-test score...do all of the tracks that make up the course...request credit from ACE...and you should be good!

So you were able to get credit for the courses that required a 70% without getting 80% or above?

You should be fine. Once you finish all of the courses within the track, request credit from ACE.

The requirements for getting a certificate and the requirements for getting ACE credits are different. ACE requires an overall average of 80 for the track. If TEEX says you're good to to for credits when your track average is not 80, then they will be violating ACE's terms. You should be fine as long as you score high enough on the other courses to overcome the 70.

Thanks for the clarification. Where does ACE say that they require the 80 average? That IS rather confusing...

That' what I was afraid of. In the Network Assurance course I scored a 70,90,81,71 in the four module post tests to average a 78. Am I possibly ok since I averaged an 86.4 combined from AWR 173 Information Security Basics and AWR 178 Secure Software and still have AWR 193 Digital Forensics Basics to finish and I averaged a 78 in AWR 138 Network Assurance? So my average between the first three tracks is 82.2. Is that ok as long as I finish the last track above 80? So confused! Thanks

Actually, if you click on the ACE description, it says this.

Quote:The methods of evaluation are quizzes, examinations, and online activities. To receive certification, the student must score 80% or higher on the comprehensive final examination.
ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training

However, the TEEX courses don't work like this anymore. There used to be one pre-test and one post-test for all of the modules. Now, there are pre-tests and post-tests that are separately given for each module. So, in practice, I think TEEX only pays attention the overall average for the courses within a track. TEEX could easily make things less complicated by requiring an 80 for all modules. I think they decided to update some courses, but forgot to update the others to match the ACE recommendations. They should have two different systems for those wanting continuing education credits and those wanting college credits.

You don't need to worry about the average for all of the tracks. The 3 tracks are treated as 3 different courses by ACE: Cybersecurity for Everyone, Cybersecurity for Business, and Cybersecurity for IT Professionals. You need to worry about your average within each track. TEEX is usually very helpful with these things. Ask them if you only need an 80 average for all of the courses in the track or if you should have the courses reset. I think you will be okay if your overall average for the 4 courses is 80 even though you scored less than an 80 for one of the courses.

This is the response I got from TEEX.

Howdy Cristopher: We changed the grade requirement from 80% to 70% when we began recertifying the courses in August last year. We wanted to bring the passing mark to be more in line with current academic standards and to also align it with the passing grade for our face to face classes, which is 70%.

We felt this was a more accurate assessment of our classes and their difficulty. It is currently set at 70% correct as a passing grade. Please let me know if you find any of the cybersecurity classes having the old grade of 80% as the passing mark.

Hoping to get some help from anyone who has taken one of these courses lately. I am currently taking AWR-175 Information Security For Everyone, and it does not sound at all like what people talked about on this thread at the beginning. I have to take a pretest, then go through the entire module, then take a post-test. Even if I get 100% on the pretest (which I have), I still have to go through everything, click in different places, etc. before I can get to the post-test. Is this a change to how it used to be? Have you found a really fast way of getting through the module to be able to take the post-test?

Thanks!
