To those who have taken courses from multiple providers, do any have a format similar to Sophia? They're more expensive but I like the way their courses are structured far better than any of the others I've checked out so far.

Study.com is similar in many ways. It's one of my favorites.
1. Prep Phase: Hopeless, 15 credits, need a BA fast, never heard of TESU
2. TESU BALS: 121/120 (9 months)
3. RN Paramedic Bridge - Excelsior (9 months + CPNE wait)
4. WGU RN -> BSN
5. BSN -> MSN/FNP

We love Sophia and Study.com. My son recently took an Ed4credit class which was also great. They are more expensive, but we are going to try another class with them because of the format. They have the best coupon codes for days close to most holidays.

Doesn't Sophia have a coupon right now, with 5 courses for $90 each? I may have read that wrong, or it may have expired, but look for it.
I too liked the Sophia course I took (Proj Mgmt), and did not really think that any other courses I did were very similar (Study.com, Ed4Credit, SL, Saylor, TEEX). Anyone who says Study.com is close may be looking at the fact that they're both video-based, but I didn't think even that part of it was similar.

I think that was for ARPA members only through TESU. You have to have membership now. Cause I wanted to do it too but all the codes expired.

Yeah, I actually bought six classes with that coupon code and had another $50 code that made the Greek Philosophers class about $100. However, I'm just thinking ahead because that code did expire and I doubt they'll have another one that good.

Were Study and Ed4Credit also a little information followed by a quiz? I didn't like the ones that are an overdose you on information followed by a giant quiz. I learn better with the bite sized chunks. Also having all those small challenges that give you a cushion on the final is great.

I don't know about Ed4credit, but study has a 5-10 minute video followed by a 5 question quiz with multiple attempts. The quizzes make up 1/3 of the total grade.

Those 2 course providers are nothing alike. Ed4Credit was more like SL. You read an e-book, then took a chapter test. Then a final. The main differences between E4C and SL was:
1) E4C allows 3 tries for each exam (SL only allows a retake for the 1st exam, and then only once)
2) E4C requires that you actually get a 50% on the final exam, and 70% in the course to pass and get credit (SL only requires a 70% overall)
3) E4C allows 4 months to complete the course (SL is 1 month)
I liked E4C, and I really needed more than a month to complete a course, but that's me. Some people can pound them out, I am just not built that way. I do the course in stops and starts, because life gets in the way.

Study.com has small amounts of information and a lot of quizzes. We like their videos. The Ed4credit class my son took (and it was only one) reminded me more of the amount of info as are in sophia courses before each quiz. It was text and not video, but it did have audio for the text. I guess we will see if it is the same in his next class with them. The 3 tries for each exam was a big plus also, but I don't think he ever needed more than 2. Study.com allows 3 tries that count, but Ed4credit had 8 quizzes as opposed to the large amount Study has. Straighterline had way more content to remember before each exam.
