Finnish Universities (XAMK etc.) (incl. CS/IT courses!)

The video game creation course is valid for ECTS but it doesn't grant you access to Peppi or Learn and, thus, no access to HAKA either. If you want to take a course elsewhere, you'll first need to sign up for another course at XAMK.

Rachel I wanted to update you, since you seemed interested in actual Helsinki login credentials (plus it may make a nice addition to the Wiki).

There is a free course here https://studies.helsinki.fi/courses/cur/...e_teaching that is still available for sign-up. I first registered using my HAKA login, and then I contacted the IT Services (from my XAMK email) and filled out a form requesting a Helsinki username.

Since I don't have banking codes etc. they are letting me confirm my identify over Zoom!! Big Grin

It was super easy, I had to chat to Jasmin (who is a guy), show my passport, answer some questions, and then my identity is "hard" confirmed. They are so nice, and honestly I am super grateful. Now I will have access to Sisu (their Peppi), and can store credits there for OU courses, MOOC course credits etc. just the same as XAMK. He initially gave me an account for one year, but he said I can email him if I need to extend. I told him I knew some people who were also interested and asked if this is a usual process, and he said he does this every day for people all over the world, and its not a problem for him to Zoom to confirm identity.

Since this OU course is free I didn't even have to pay anything. They do have some nice other OU courses I may pay for now just because I am grateful lol. One in marine archaeology looks really interesting.

Their MOOC's are free, CS courses are free, and other courses are cheap etc. so this is a potential goldmine of RA credits. Sending one from Helsinki and another from XAMK at the same time will be max credits for minimum cost since you generally get a discount with international evaluators for the second, third etc. transcript.
Hi Sarah,
I was wondering if you can register for a class like the one below after getting a Helsinki student account? Thank you.

Has anyone tried getting a HAKA login from Laurea ?

I received the following e-mail after registering with Laurea . But I don't know how to get HAKA credentials.
Also, this e-mail seems to imply that the Laurea student account will become inactive after 9 months of no enrollment.
If that is the case, then you lose access to your credits, no ?

The e-mail says that in such a case, you can go to the website https://opintopolku.fi/oma-opintopolku/ to access your credits.
But upon visiting that website, it says
"My Studyinfo provides services for identified and logged in users. The services available are listed below. You can access these services in My Studyinfo only by logging in via Suomi.fi e-Identification with Finnish online banking credentials (e-identification must be enabled), a Finnish electronic ID-card or mobile certificate. Identification methods for foreigners in Suomi.fi e-Identification are not currently supported. "

Does XAMK have this problem too ? (i.e. the student login becoming inactive after a few months)
Or does XAMK provide you with a national student ID ?

Anyway, the email from Laurea follows:

"""We have received your payment of {paid_total} concerning the following courses offered by Laurea Open UAS:

R0416 - Python-ohjelmointi

Your enrollment for the course is now confirmed.

Please notice that after receiving this message it will take approximately three working days that your information will be transferred to our student registration system. Only after that you will be able to activate your Laurea user account.

Please read the instructions carefully below to ensure that you get your studies started without any problems.

Starting studies

1. Activate your Laurea user account

You will need Laurea user account to log in Laurea's systems.

Activate your Laurea user account at IAM Portal-service.

The instructions for activating your user account: Laurea user accounts

You can choose either alternative one or alternative two.

Alternative one: If you have a Finnish bank user ID

Go to the IAM Portal: https://iam.laurea.fi and select Suomi.fi - Opiskelija (Student) as the login method.
Select your bank and log in with your bank ID (follow the onscreen instructions).
Read and accept the terms of use.
Set a password for yourself by entering it in both fields. Finally, click "OK".

Alternative two: If you do not have a Finnish social security number

Contact Laurea's Student Affairs office, which will provide you with a one-time password after identification. Please note that you will need to change your password within a week or your account will no longer be available. Therefore, change your password as soon as possible (continue following the instructions).
When you receive a one-time password, log in to the IAM portal with ADFS authentication.
After logging in, if you do not receive the password reset page automatically, select "Reset password" and follow the instructions on the page to reset your password (see the "Password" section of this guide).

When you have activated your user account (alternative one or two), you can check in IAM-Portal.

Once you have logged in to the IAM portal (either with ADFS or Suomi.fi authentication), you can check your username on the "My Profile" page. Your username will appear in parentheses after your name. From the same "profile card" you can also see e.g. Your Laurea email address.

Please notice:

For activating your account at you need a Finnish bank user ID. If you don't have the Finnish bank user ID, you need to activate your account with a onetime password. You can get a onetime password from a student affairs office.
If you have trouble activating your user account, contact Laurea ServiceDesk. You can call to number (09) 8868 7112 or send email to address servicedesk@laurea.fi
If you have already activated Laurea's user account, you can skip this section. If necessary, check your valid Laurea's user account through IAM Portal-service.
New students receive a username in the form of 3 letters + 5 numbers (as shown above).
Current students, as well as students returning to Laurea to study within 9 months of their previous studies, use their 7-digit username (eg. 2299009).

For Laurea systems you log in using useraccount@laurea.fi and the password that you created.

2. Log in to the learning platform

Most of Laurea Open UAS courses use the digital learning platform Canvas. If another system is used as a learning platform (DigiCampus or Viope), you will receive the registration instructions by a separate e-mail. See the learnig platform from the course website.

1. Log in Canvas learning platform in address https://canvas.laurea.fi

2. Choose "Log in with your Laurea ID".

3. Enter Laurea's user account in the form of: useraccount@laurea.fi and your password.

The courses that you have enrolled you can see from the Canvas main page and from “Courses”.

------------------

Canvas has a separate workspace for each course that describes the study schedules, contents and assignments related to the course. The canvas workspace of each course will be opened to students on the start date of the course in question at the latest.

Transcript of Records and Certificate of Study

After you have completed the course, you can also order or download a study certificate or a transcript of records if you need them. Read more on Student Affairs Offices website.

If your Laurea user account isn't active anymore, you can look your study credits from the My Studyinfo service (https://opintopolku.fi/oma-opintopolku/). In order to log in to the service you must identify yourself by using Finnish bank identification codes. From the service you can also share your study credits onwards."""

Xamk login becomes in active when your course ends, but you can reactivate it by signing up for another course. Or you can contact Xamk by email to get your transcript.
