How would I go about doing this? I have no idea what school it was from. Just the name of the person (my father), and a SSN if I do some digging.

Do you know approximately when he got the degree and where he lived? It was really common for newspapers to announce local graduates, especially during the Vietnam draft. You could try looking in the local hometown paper archives to try to find the school. Maybe not so helpful if he lived in a major city.

I wonder if the school participates in the National Student Clearninghouse or something of that nature.
I think there are a large number of schools participating in that for verification purposes.
They are found from this Link: http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/

Have you truly exhausted all the distant relations that might be able to shed some light? Might be worth some letters and phone calls to get more info.

No idea on state. It was some sort of distance learning program, as my father was active duty USMC at the time. The timeframe would have been 1960-1966 (I think). I'll do some digging with my family when I visit them in July.

Second the local newspaper suggestion, especially if he lived in a small town or rural community.
My local newspaper published every graduation, marriage, engagement, birth, death etc. When I was a K-12 student, I was in the paper all the time for relatively minor accomplishments like winning the regional spelling bee or getting a top ACT score. Degrees, especially advanced degrees, were major and you’d get a color photo . This was in the mid-late 2000s, I imagine it was even more of an “event” in the 1960s.
Do you have anybody on social media who might know?

Definitely rural community, but not making much headway with the local paper (will probably have to bite the bullet and subscribe). Not much social media presence with the older members of my family, but I'll do some digging.
Thanks for the help everyone!!!

Call the local library for the area, they may be able to help you with gaining access to the historical newspapers.
