Hello!
Does anyone know of any discounts for CLEP tests? Also, do you know of a way to receive financial aid for a high school student taking the tests to work towards a Bachelor's? Any advice/suggestions/tips will be appreciated!

There are discounts for DSSTs but as far as I know, not for CLEPs.
If you're not enrolled in a college it can be hard to get scholarships and grants and such, but for some scholarships, you don't have to be enrolled.

The only "discounts" I know of for CLEP exams are for military members and some spouses. In general the exam fees are already a great discount. Where else can students earn 3, 6, or 12 college credits (possibly more depending on what the individual college awards for scores) for $80? If we are talking a teenager, I have had multiple testing candidates this age. In some cases, the teenagers are responsible for earning the money to pay for the testing fees. In other cases, I have parents who will pay for the initial attempt. If the student does not pass they will have to pay for the next attempt. In either case, it is a good idea to give the students some skin in the game of their own education.

I would definitely shop around for the most cost effective testing center. The fees charged by the colleges in my area vary from no fee for the local Christian College administering DSST's to almost $50 each for my local CC to administer a CLEP.

BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010
I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Devry is just about everywhere, and they don't charge a testing fee. However, the location in San Antonio is a PIA to deal with. I just pay the $20 fee at Wayland Baptist University. My backup place is Our Lady of the Lake University which also charges $20. I haven't found any other school that offers regular testing to non-students in my area.

I wish I had looked into financial aid a little more and filled out a FAFSA. I just learned that a Pell Grant may apply to taking only one course at a time. I thought it was for half-time students, at a minimum.
You can try these scholarship searches without creating an account:
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/scholarship-search
CollegeNET - Mach25 Scholarship Search
You can also google specific traits/circumstances and "scholarship" to find other options. Try to find local scholarships, too.
I'm just starting my search, so it's too early to know how it's going. The requirements seem very specific.
I think all of the members of this forum, since we are using credit-by-exam, are great candidates for this Common Knowledge Quiz Scholarship. It includes high school students and their parents and college and graduate school students. There is also an interesting opportunity for tuition reimbursement for certain majors.
Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation (CKSF) No Essays, No Applications, No GPA Requirements, Just Scholarships!
I hope you find some help with funding your education!

Pell only works half time at Excelsior, once I drop below 6 credits I have to file an exit counseling form.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

You're welcome, Agapegirl!
I hope more forum members will give the quizzes a try. I know one of them is currently in the lead for the Exodus quiz!!!

This is good to know. Maybe I didn't miss out on as much help as I thought I did. I wonder why different schools can treat the one class at a time issue differently. I didn't find any info about it on the FAFSA site, but I did find a few colleges that mentioned it on their websites. I'm not sure if the policy is current or out-of-date for those schools.
