Hard to Handle Birthdays?
#11
I had a hard time with 60. Almost was ready to look for a support group. Took me a while to get to 'hello, my name is PJ, and I am a senior citizen.' Still not used to looking in the mirror, as in: 'who is this person, and where did those wrinkles come from?' My son now teases me about qualifying for student discounts and senior discounts at the same time!
You are not alone. The best way over it, is to look for all the great things about being who you are, at the age you are.

Happy Birthday!

Wow, you sure do seem to have a lot of folks who care about you, and share their concerns. Guess it takes time to gather that many friends.

I don't have much 'qualification' to posting here (don't even turn 18 for another 6+ months).

Just going to say, you all have seen a lot more good days than I have! Tongue

It does take time to gather good friends, so I guess that is a great benefit to getting older! Thanks Latebloomer for pointing that out! I'm feeling better about getting older by focusing on all that I have accomplished in recent years and all that I still want to accomplish. Thanks again to all my forum friends for letting me know that I'm not alone.

You're never alone in the IC-Forums-Classroom! Besides that, I'll be turning 53 on Halloween but I can't dress up and pretend I am an 18 year old, but I can act like one! :reddevil:

Being able to grow old and put on age is really a blessing and a priveledge. You can spend a million life times on this earth and probably not see everything. The oceans pound the coral reefs of the Pacific Ocean as they have for millions of years. They outlive us. We are on this earth for a very short time. And in that time, we have to grasp the enjoyment and beauty of it all. When you consider, we work most of our lives away to survive, we sleep, we eat, but how much time do you really get to stop and smell the roses and your surroundings. It's a beautiful world, and I've been blessed to have seen far distances of this planet. I don't want to check out anytime soon. Lets say I have unfinished business, and no wrinkle on my face would ever stop that.

I'll be 70 very soon. Since I turned 55, four wonderful kids have been born, who call me "Grandpa."

I'm not "going" till I hit 140 -- because it'll take me that many pension-years to be even with the Canadian Government. Smile

When I hit 60, guys I knew who were my age started dropping like flies - death, strokes, coronaries etc. Women -- not so much. I noticed these men had one thing in common -- they all drank ... most of them drank lots - and it seemed to me that the weakening process was very sudden. So I quit altogether, as soon as I pieced that together. Seems to work.

I can still outrun a jealous husband... or, more likely, catch a bus! Smile Oh yeah, I still take courses, too. Now I've got the time.

I try not to worry about aging too much. I see guys in the gym in their 50s that are in a lot better shape than I am. That motivates me to eat better and work out more so that I can live a healthier life for the years I have. One kid I went to school with died at 18 and another died a few months ago at 36. They would want us to make the most of it.

Yeah, despite any hangups, I think (hope) everything will work itself out in the end. I suppose everyone posting in this forum can claim the advantages of being alive and being more "in the know" than many people out there; if you're actively getting education, you at least have direction in life.
