Hello everyone,

I have just joined InstantCert and am very excited to take care of some gen ed credits towards my Management Degree. I have made a rough plan as follows. The information in parentheses is how it will apply to my degree. I would appreciate the feedback to see if this is a realistic plan. I am very motivated and need to complete the following before September 1st. Going out of the country till mid July so I can't start til after.

Friday, July 17th - Substance Abuse (3 UD Elective Credits and 3 Science Credits)

Tuesday, July 21st - Here's To Your Health (3 Science Credits)

Tuesday, July 28th - Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union (3 UD Elective Credits and 3 Liberal Arts Credits)

Friday, July 31st - Environment - Race to Save Planet Earth (3 Science Credits)

Tuesday, August 11th - Ethics in America (3 Humanities Credits)

Friday, August 14th - Intro to World Religion (3 Humanities Credits)

Friday, August 21st - Human Growth and Development (3 UD Elective Credits and 3 Science Credits)

Can anyone recommend substitutions or suggest a particular order in how to attack this?

Thanks for the help and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Thanks for the inspirational quotes, ShotoJuku. I especially like the boiling water analogy.

I am looking for advice on whether the above plan is realistic or not. With the resources IC has, it looks possible to me.

It will be a bit intense for a couple months, but I would say it is at least do-able. Two weeks is often recommended as a time period for taking a test. If you can learn faster -- by all means, take advantage of that! No reason to waste time...but I suppose IC-ers know that if they're here. Smile

Does Human Growth and Development CLEP count as Upper Level Credit at your college? I thought they were always lower level except at, say, TESC.

It's entirely feasible.

As you can see from my own fancy signature block :p , I snapped up 30 credits via Dantes in a 32-day period. That's a full year's worth of credits in just slightly over a month!

If your test center allows it, why not take two tests at a time? I doubled up on 3 of my test dates. The forum's Specific Exam Feedback section made it much easier to focus my study time on the material covered by the exams. If you manage your study time well, studying two subjects for a week can be better than studying one for three days. It all depends on your learning style and speed. I'm kind of impatient. Big Grin

FYI, Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union is a rough exam. Unless you already have a strong familiarity with the history of 20th century Russia/USSR, give yourself plenty of study time.

April 4 2009 through July 6 2009: 1 GRE subject exam + 1 Penn Foster credit + 11 DANTES exams = 61 credits. Average per-credit cost = $23.44.

Everyone,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I realize it's a tall order but I'm willing to do what it takes. Perrik-that is great you were able to get so much accomplished. Thanks for the advice on Rise and Fall of Soviet Union. Can you recommend another option to take the place of this course? The testing center I am going to use only allows 1 test per day due to their hours of operation.

I am currently having my counselor review my CLEP/DANTES plan to make sure the UD classes I take are correct. Should hear back by next week.

In the meantime, I'll be checking in with my progress (and updating my signature block). Smile

Many Thanks!!!

There are folks here who have completed even more exams in a similar time frame! Taking the tests can be a little addictive...

I'd recommend Civil War & Reconstruction as a substitute for the Soviet Union exam. Assuming you attended a U.S. elementary/secondary school and stayed awake during history classes, you already know the major players and events.

I second the suggestion to take DSST Civil War and Reconstruction instead of DSST Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union, unless you are already very familiar...

I think this is entirely possible, if you are focused and study very hard. You will know after your first few exams if you can maintain this sort of pace. The most I did was eight exams in one month, but I passed them. I would give Civil War and Reconstruction at least one good week of study, no slacking!

I would take them in this order, if it were me:

Here's To Your Health
Human Growth and Development
Substance Abuse
Environment - Race to Save the Planet
Ethics in America
Intro to World Religions
Civil War & Reconstruction

Good luck, and keep us updated on your progress!

Excellent! Thanks for the information, Alissa. I was going to kick off with an upper division elective but I think I will go with "Here's To Your Health" first since many students already have success with this.

Thanks again,
