Fancy Post Skills-- I need help :)
#1
Hi - I hope this isn't a stupid question Smile I am not really familiar with forums and how to post certain things. I understand how to do a very basic post but I noticed many of you have such fancy skills that I admire Smile you know how to put links in your posts, use big fonts and colors etc. I looked at the FAQ sections and it was talking about using vB codes in your posts?? Are we suppose to type in those codes or is there something else to this? I really want to know how to put a link in my posts when I am trying to show someone a helpful website or link to another post on this forum. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it!!

Hi creative, pictures below for you

1. While writing a post, first click the 'little world' button at the top of the editor:

2. Next, enter the URL (address) of the page you want to link to. Below, I've copied (right-click on permalink then 'copy link location') and pasted (ctrl-v) the direct link to your original post:

3. The text highlighted in blue, shown below, is what the link will say/look like in your actual post. There are two links to the same location, the second has been amended:

4. Here's what the two previous links look like to everyone else once posted. Previewing your post is a good way to check this:

Hi irnbru-

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question!!. The problem is I do not have the editor thing that is in your picture at the top of my message. All I have is a big white blank square and it says 'message'. How do you get one of those editor things to appear at the top of the message screen?? Do you have to have a PC to do that? I have a MacBook so I don't know if that is my problem. However, I just double checked on my PC and it just has the blank white square to write your message in--but no editor like in your picture. I am definitely missing something here Sad Thanks for any assistance!!

No worries, creative. Two options:

A Change your account editor settings.
B Type the BBCode directly.

How to change your account editor settings:

1. Click on 'User CP' underneath the InstantCert logo.

2. Click on 'Edit Options' in the left side control panel.

3. Scroll all the way to the last option, 'Miscellaneous Options'.

4. Change the drop-down box from 'Basic Editor' to 'Standard Editor'

5. Click 'Save Changes'. Done!

It's also possible to select a 'What you see is what you get' (WYSIWYG) version of the editor that you might find a bit more natural. It's a bit like the preview post function constantly running as you type.

How to type the BBCode directly:

In the post above with pictures, look at step 3. Type it out, using the same format.

If you scroll right down to the bottom of this page, you should see a little box in the bottom left called 'Posting Rules'. If you click on the 'vB Code' phrase, you will be taken to more information, including this explanation for putting links directly in your posts:

Can you can post a reply to your thread, containing a link, using either of these methods?
