If I fail a class because the professor does not like my paper, can I take the course at another place and transfer it in? Or would I be required to retake it again next session?

Generally re-taken courses should be taken at the same school the course was initially taken to have the grade replaced, otherwise both grades would be counted into your GPA. I have never gone to UMPI, so I do not know if they will make you take it the next session, but I have never heard of such a thing. If you think your paper was good though, and do not agree with the professor's grade of the paper, you could try talking to the professor about it and if that does not work asking the department chair/head to review the paper. There may be a formal appeals process.

You get 2 attempts at your Final Assessment. If it's a paper, then you submit a Rough Draft and the professor responds with their notes and things they want changed. It's really difficult to fail a paper at UMPI because you have the Rough Draft. You also get a sheet of instructions and a rubric to follow.
As for retaking the course, it's best to retake it at UMPI because that F is included in your grades and will kill your GPA. You may be able to take a course elsewhere and transfer it in. That depends on if the course is available elsewhere and how many credits you've transferred in.

Take advantage of the writing center before submitting your draft, then again after if needed. I've met online with 3 different tutors at this point, and all of them have been helpful with their feedback.
