I just received the catalog (I enrolled las week) it comes with an addendum that says: Beggining Sept 1st. 2007, all students enrolled in a Liberal Arts major with the exception of Math, must satisfy the Research and Writing in the Majors requirement, this can be fulfilled many ways.
Excelsior offers LA 490,1 credit course after which you need to produce an 8 page paper in your discipline.
If I am reading this right this requirement is for those going for a major and it will not apply to those that opted for no major......?
There is always something...!

Has anyone worked out the Research and Writing in the majors requirement? The addendum et4tango mentions says there are a few ways to satisfy the requirement. Iâm concerned about the second option, which says to ⦠submit a graded research paper they have âalready completed in an upper-level course within their major disciplineâ. What if you tested out of all of the upper level requirements? The other options mentioned involve taking courses.
I would appreciate any of the ways forward you have found, especially if there is an exam or something that can be knocked out over a long weekend. Please let me know what you have uncovered.
Thank you, ICS

Seems to me that the Excelsior course is not so unreasonable. It's a one-credit course, so it'll be about $295. That's not that much more than a three-credit ECE exam. It's basically a literature review and an 8-page paper. Doesn't seem out of line, and shouldn't slow anybody down significantly. It's an extra bump in the road, but it's still quite a bargain for a four-year degree.
