Excelsior - POAG degree restrictions (can I do a business degree?)
#11
I made my application last week to Excelsior using my newly minted POAG membership. They sent me an email verifying my details and now I wait the next step of evaluation of my foreign credits. There's a requirement to take 6 credits per year to avail of the membership which I'll need anyway.
not a member of POAG, not inclined to join? visit excelsior for their partner program Corporate Partners and Alliances - excelsior.edu
here's the pricing structure http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...can-i.html
Here's how I see it Standard rates, including graduation fee = $2075 plus 3 credit capstone (3X$390) = $1170 = $3245 if you graduate in one year and test out of everything else.
POAG rates, including graduation fee = $1035 plus 6 credits including capstone (6X$330)= $1980 = $3015 If you graduate in one year.
POAG Only a saving of $230 (not counting the 6X$15=$90 off the graduation price which means a total saving of 320) but, it means that I don't pay out $1015 one time enrollement fee which doesn't contribute to my GPA while each credit I take at the school goes toward my GPA only a few CLEP and DSST are assigned letter grades leaving your capstone course being the decider on your GPA by testing out.
My decision is based on getting FAFSA grants which will pay for those credits but won't pay for CLEP or DSST exams since each Clep has a cost of around $100. The price of books does come into the equation but since I don't have the 1015 to even enroll POAG helps me a lot. I'll figure out a payment plan for the other classes along with my FAFSA.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

Just want to be sure you understand the usual fees at EC - Excelsior College fees and tuition - excelsior.edu

Application fee - $80
Enrollment fee (multi-source) -$1015
Capstone course - 3 UL credits - 3x$390
Graduation fee - $495
Total = $2760

That's it, if you graduate within the first year of enrollment. If you need to extend your enrollment beyond the first year, then you pay the yearly Student Service Annual Fee - $485.

I realize that the chart at EC is not clear about the SSAF. I hope this helps to show that the total is actually less than many people think.

Is the POAG discount better than the military family member discount? Does anyone have the current costs for Excelsior's partnership with POAG? I didn't find it on either Excelsior's or POAG's site.

I didn't find the costs, but I found a contact for the partnerships who should be able to answer your questions.

I'm getting a bit rusty these days, bogged down in the mire of Managerial Accounting at my local B&M! Stay at home Daddy, window cleaning business owner and accounting clerk, so my answer regarding the partnership deal is that it saved me around $60 per credit hour.
Excelsior's Military rates are much lower for Military students, all 37,000 of them Smile as for the family discount I didn't apply to me so I never inquired.
Looks like the rates have dropped even further to $100 a credit hour at $390 according to this buried in the POAG page info: They expect you do some detective work I guess Smile https://my.excelsior.edu/documents/46041...684f3652af

Military family members rate is just $250 but you have to sign up for a certain amount of credit hours.
