Excelsior Capstone
#1
First off, I'm sorry if this is redundant. Please direct me if it is. I have asked EC about Capstone, about which EC is apparently very proud. All I seem to get is rhetoric about how wonderful the Capstone experience is, how much I will enjoy the course, and how it tends to crown the degree and give the degree closure. Dig a hole. I have asked questions that include: Are there any alternatives to the Capstone such as a large researched paper on an assigned subject, or what's the nature of the Capstone...technicaly what do I have to have to participate in this learning opportunity? The bottom line is that I am on dial-up with no end in sight in this regard and all I get from EC is that I have to do the Capstone and that I will like it immensely. Any thoughts?

I am not aware of any alternatives to this required course.

Have you downloaded the sample syllabus? It gives a lot of details about the courses.

To find the capstone courses in Course Search: Choose the large Liberal Arts category, then check "Liberal Arts" and "Upper-Level".

LA498 are the capstone courses. Choose one of them and then "Download a Sample Syllabus".

Thank you! I see why EC "needs me" to take this "course," to see that I am properly indoctrinated with two of my most hated subjects: diversity and race. I find both of these to be be irrelevant and divisive. Well, I'm off to study so I can be well prepared for my date with LA-498SS Social Science Capstone. Thanks again.

I'm not sure how choosing the capstone course works. Can you choose one of the other ones? I know you said you have UL history credit already. Can you choose the history capstone instead?

I also don't know what "sample" means. Does that mean it is not the official syllabus for the course?

Within 2-3 tests I will be able to take a capstone. At that time I will have 21 History (6 U/L) credits and 21 Psychology (9 U/L) credits. I can choose between the Social Science or History capstone. I very love History! Yes, I went back to EC to see if I could take a different capstone. I think the "sample" means that they can change it if they want to. Sample = not in stone.

Hi dewisant, I did the social science capstone. It's not a bad course at all, tbh. Depending on how you approach the subjects, the course can be as broad or deep as you want to make it. It's also not required to go along with any perceived happy-clappy, politically-correct main body. Just construct reasonable papers and products.

There is an additional 'research and writing' requirement at EC, too. It's a 2 credit, UL course with EC or the submission of a related, graded, UL paper.

Best wishes!

Thanks for adding your experience with the capstone!

Do you know if the Research & Writing is still just for those who are completing majors in the school of liberal arts? Or has it been added to all bachelors degrees like the capstone?

By the way, does this mean you won your appeal and were allowed to submit a graded paper? I hope so!

I don't have to, because I did a research writing course years ago.
