Excelsior: Can you help me with a degree plan?
#1
Looking at the BSBA in Business. You can see the credits I have in my sig. Not sure if all of these courses transfer this way, but here's what I think might work. If you have any input or can tell me where to find the courses I need (SDC, CSM, etc.), please share.

Also:
1. Does Sophia Accounting count as Managerial Accounting or Financial Accounting?
2. My Science, College Comp and College Math CLEPs are about 22 years old now. Does that matter for Excelsior?

Thanks.

Age doesn't matter to Excelsior - but your problem is going to be College Board, since they only keep scores for 20 years.  So they may have disappeared at this point.  College Comp is not accepted at Excelsior, they require a course.

Excelsior does not limit your courses in each area, so they'll slot everything where it goes.  They do limit math to 3 courses below the level of Calculus, I'm not certain how Stats fits in there, so you may lose something (you have College Math, College Algebra, Stats, and they may require Business Stats).

Thanks.

I'm not 100% on CLEP/DSST since they stopped publishing those ages ago, but going by the same courses at SDC/Sophia gives a clue.

Your main issues will be:
1) Will they accept Stats or do you have to take Business Stats (which I think you do, it can be done via SDC)
2) Will they accept Intro to Ethics or do you have to take Business Ethics

Then, you need the following:
English Comp I (SDC or Sophia)
Business Writing: ENG-102: Business Writing (Coopersmith)
MAT-303: Quantitative Analysis (Coopersmith-UL)
Managerial Accounting - SDC
Business Communication: BUS 324: Managerial Communication (SDC)
Intl Business: BUS 308: Globalization and International Management (SDC)
3 more UL Business Electives (SDC) - check the transfer guide prior to taking anything

If you do the above, you will only have 7 UL courses, and you need 10 UL - so you'll probably have to take BUS 307: Leadership and Organizational Behavior (SDC-UL), FIN 301: Corporate Finance (SDC-UL), and then possibly 1 more.

And if you don't find out all of this prior to sending in your credits for an eval, then you will have to pay another $300 for a second eval - not the end of the world, but annoying.  So I'd just factor that into your costs up frontl

Thanks for your insightful analysis. I have more to accomplish still than I thought.

1. So EU requires 30 UL credits?
2. Why English Comp 1 (Sophia) AND Business Writing (Coopersmith)? Why not one or the other?
3. Any insight on Coopersmith Quantitative Analysis vs the CSM Course?
4. Any insight on Business Writing at Coopersmith vs Sophia ? (They both offer this course)

  1. Yes, Excelsior requires 30 UL credits. Other schools require more or less. TESU is 15 + capstone (18 total). UMPI depends on the degree.
  2. Excelsior requires 6 credits of English/Writing. For a business degree, 3 of those credits MUST be Business Writing. This requirement does not apply to Liberal Studies degrees.
  3. I can't help you here.
  4. According to https://excelsior.sophia.org/, Excelsior does not (yet?) accept Workplace Writing from Sophia. If you already have a Sophia membership, it wouldn't hurt to take it and confirm this. I wouldn't count on them accepting it, though. They already don't accept Sophia's English Comp II nor the English Comp CLEP.

1. Yes
2. These are the "Written English" requirements for the BSB at Excelsior
3. The Coopersmith course is UL and accepted for this requirement; the CSM course is not
4. The Sophia course is not accepted for this requirement

Does EU have a CLEP or DSST transfer page, that shows how each test transfers? Or something for Coopersmith?

Nope. Excelsior does not post CLEP/DSST equivalencies. For Coopersmith, there is https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Co...Consulting but it's not as complete as many might hope.

Considering that I need 30 UL credits, how do I figure out if they transfer SDC courses as UL or LL?

For instance, BUS305 Leadership Communication at SDC is UL. But the transfer page only says it comes in as a Business Elective. Can I safely assume that, since it's considered UL by SDC, it will count toward my UL at EU?

(TESU is way more clear with this stuff, but their RA credit requirement set me back a lot.)

EDIT: I just realized they say whether it's UL or LL in the right-hand column.

Instead, let me ask this: How can I know whether I can use Leadership Communication, instead of Managerial Communication, from SDC for the EU Business Communication requirement?

I wouldn't be afraid of TESU's RA credit requirements. You can easily/cheaply fill those requirements with TECEPs, Finnish credits, TEL Learning, and/or ASU Universal Learner. Possibly plus a flat-rate term.

With Excelsior, IIRC, only 9 credits of a BLS can be in a "professional" area. Everything else needs to be liberal arts. That means most business things are out.

If you're going for a Business degree, I don't think any communications course on SDC counts for the English/Writing requirement. You need to take the Business Communications course from Coopersmith.

With TESU, because of RA requirement, I end up needing like 60 credits for the BSBA Entrepreneurship degree. Looks like I need about 36 or so for EU, and all but three are SDC courses.

I don't know what Excelsior IIRC is. Can you explain?

Business Communications from Coopersmith. You mean for the Business Communications requirement in the Business Component section? Because you already said English Comp 1 (SDC or Sophia) and Business Writing from Coopersmith for the English requirement.

And how do you know the Coopersmith course will work? I don't even see it listed on the degree wiki link you gave.

Thanks.
