Hi everyone,
I believe it was pitbull who recently told me that he'd like to see a more detailed explanation on what exams fit into what category for a BS-Business degree with Excelsior. With that in mind, I created the attached Word document that shows exactly what exams are available to meet each requirement.
As of June, the only Business degree requirement that is no longer available by exam is Managerial Accounting, and you must take an approved course instead. This requirement was formerly included in the 6-credit CLEP Principles of Accounting exam, which will now change to the 3-credit CLEP Principles of Financial Accounting. I hope that makes sense!
Also, I have heard that Excelsior is changing the requirements for the BS-Business degree effective Sept. 1st, and once I learn what the exact changes are, I will update this document and re-post it.
If I have anything wrong, feel free to speak up!

Thanks again for your reply about transferring my English credits from Regis.
I will probably be bugging you a lot since I am trying to go down the same route you have, (hope you don't mind).
I am looking over the exams required for a business degree from Excelsior and maybe you know the answer; I have taken the six credit accounting clep back in October (which Regis accepted) would Excelsior accept them as in a credit transfer or will I have to take a course?
Second question is, I am waiting for Excelsior's evaluation until I enroll but I want to continue to take cleps/dantes, so do I have to list a schools code when taking the exams, or can I get those sent at a later date, (because I am basing the decision to enroll on what excelsior's evaluation is)?
What I am trying to do is completely test out of my undergrad degree ASAP and get into grad school, (probably through Regis).
I do understand that your reply is not set in stone and I will have to wait for Excelsior's evaluation, I am just trying to gain some insight as to how the process works.
Thanks again,
PS, my name is Mike and I am still in the learning curve as far as posting is concerned.

Hi Mike,
I don't mind you asking me questions - we're all here to help.
Regarding the 6-credit CLEP Accounting exam that you took in October, I am almost positive that Excelsior would accept that as meeting the Financial & Managerial Accounting requirements, since it is currently listed on the approved exams list for Excelsior. However, your advisor would have to confirm for sure.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Excelsior will be changing the requirements for the BS-Business degree effective Sept. 1st. IF the requirement for these two accounting classes is one of the changes they make, then you might want to consider enrolling before then. Just a "heads up" as you make your plans.
Regarding sending your CLEP & DSST scores to Excelsior, on the exams you take from now on, you can have the scores sent directly to Excelsior (school code for CLEP is 2899 and for DSST is 9370). For the exams you have already taken, however, you will want to request one transcript from each of them to send to Excelsior, which will give them the latest information for doing your unofficial evaluation.
I hope that helps.

JoAnne,
Thanks for this document, it helps my planning and to clear things up alot. But I still have some questions.
1) Financial Management - I've already taken the CLEP principles of accounting to cover managerial and financial account. Please confirm then that I can take the DSST Principles of Finance to cover the financial management requirement.
2) UL/LL credits - For Ethics and Org Behavior, you say that you can apply the DSST for LL and Excelsior for UL. Do you mean that a person could take both exams e.g. 1 from ECE and one from DSST and have them both on the same transcript but applied as upper and lower?
Appreciate your feedback or feedback from anyone else!
Noticed you're in the Woodlands. I worked in Houston for several years (and hosted some conferences at our Woodlands conference center) before being shipped overseas for work... Started my Uni days with UofH about 10 years ago, wish I would have known about CLEP then!

Hi ridin8ude,
Sorry I didn't get a chance earlier today to answer your original post...I am very busy working on my tan while on vacation! :p
To answer your first question...yes, the DSST Principles of Finance exam still meets the requirement for "Financial Management" for the BS-Business degree.
Good luck with your studies and let us know if you have any more questions.
Take care,

I'm not sure about the new computer based DSST tests, but as far as CLEPs are concerned:
When you are typing in your personal information before you take the test, the software will ask you what state your school is in. For Excelsior, select New York. Then it pulls up a list of all the colleges in New York. At that point you can select Excelsior College and it will automatically reference a school code for you.
When you are done with the test and report your scores, they will be sent to Excelsior immediately. (no official transcript fees).
Anyone know about the new computer based DSST exams? On the paper based exams, my testing center had the information and they told me what school code to fill in and the scores were sent to Excelsior once DSST graded the exam.
