Hi All, I am getting ready to take the English Comp CLEP, and was wondering if anybody who has taken it can answer a few questions. Can you get a 45 on the multi choice and do well on the essays and still get a passing grade? With the essay that you have to cite, do you need a reference page at the end or just cite as you go? Does it have to be double spaced? Any other things I should be aware of? Thanks!

First of all, the CLEP English Composition test was discontinued a few years ago. It was replaced by the CLEP College Composition test. There are two versions of the College Composition test. One is called College Composition. The other is called College Composition Modular.
Some schools require essays. Some do not. Every school is different. If the College Board grades the essay, a human grades it and a computer grades it. Some schools grade the essays themselves.

I took the College Composition exam a couple years back. Find a format (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.) you like and go with it. Study it before the exam so you can use it properly. Know how to cite in text. Practice sentence structure and sentence correction.
CLEPS Passed: 10 DSST Passed: 11 TECEPS: 1

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Thanks! I was confused when going through the flash cards, and thought I'd need more work on understanding formats.
Could someone please share - Is the exam more on comprehension of different formats (i.e. being able to locate or to describe any source with detail) or on accurately citing sources using those formats (i.e. exact positioning of Title to Publisher to page #s)?
