Hi All,
I need an inexpensive way for my son to be able to take Eng Comp 1 & 2. We had an issue with SL and I know that he won't do well with CLEP. He is going in for LD testing at the end of June. SL was very difficult on grading his papers. We withdrew him. Hoping our daughter won't have the same issues.
Looking forward to your answers.
Rhonda

How about ACE approved English Composition (ENG 100) and Advanced Composition (ENG 300) from Penn Foster?

I would recommend your local CC or New Mexico Junior College, NMJC is going to run right around $100/credit
Tuition and Fees - New Mexico Junior College
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010
I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Perhaps he needs to take a developmental course. He IS a high school student, maybe just give him some more time to develop his writing skills through normal high school English courses before pushing him into college level material.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

I took both Straighterline's Business Communications and Penn Foster's Business & Technical Writing courses and the grading system is quite similar. Actually when comparing the grading format, it may even be handled by the same offshore company. Lots and lots of canned corrections/comments. I think they are paid for each comment they can make.
I am excellent at writing business letters/reports/etc; it is a part of what I do for a living. The graders always found something wrong. Even as trivial as to state I didn't need to include a cc line. Well if the letter is concerning a group of people, that group should receive a copy of the letter. That is how it's done in the business world. So just be prepared for the many commnets. There were no points taken off for the laundry list of recommendations/comments. Unfortunately there were so many, I never could figure out where I lost points. It only ended up being 3-5 so I did not care but what a backwards outfit.

I took Torah College Credits for both English Comp 1 & 2. The material was straightforward and I completed the course quickly. The turnaround for my grades and ease of use was excellent. The cost was reasonable too. I highly recommend it.

I completely agree. The difficulty with exam based high school is the lack of writing, so this may be revealing a weakness as opposed to a problem with SL. (that's not a jab)
My oldest took the developmental English through SL in high school, it was ok (not great/not the worst) but it was good for him to submit his writing to someone other than me for a change. That was enough for him to then tackle the CC placement exam and place into ENG101. In our house, we do ENG101 and ENG102 always on campus, so that's my suggestion, plus, the campus would offer free tutoring if necessary!

I took English Comp 1 through torahcollegecredits.com. It was prettty simple-5 essays and a test. I would assume it's much easier than your average college course, though it is still a challenge. The college is very good about answering questions on the assignments right away and working with you.
