I'm taking my first CLEP in the am -- Freshman English Composition! Any words of advice? I'm really nervous! I'm a military dependent and have to pay for my test so I really hope to pass the first time.
As well, does anyone know if you get your score right away?
Thanks!

I took this exam last week. I would really suggest that you know how to read APA style references and citations. There were about 10 of the 88 questions on my test that referred to them. The rest was just reading comprehension, recognizing styles of writing, and correcting common grammar mistakes. If you have a keen eye for grammar, then you will have no problem passing.
I thought it was fairly easy. I scored a 72, and I took the test cold.

Check out the specific exam threads. They have lots of great info from people who have taken tests before and have shared their input.
As far as scoring, it depends if your Education Center has computer based testing or not. The ones I've been to still have pencil and paper tests, which means you'll have to wait anywhere from 2 to 5 weeks to get your results back.
Good luck!!!

Thank you! I took the test today and passed with a 59 (not great, but good enough). It was a lot more reading than I expected, so the only advice I have for others is to watch the time. I had to use the whole 90 minutes for the test -- and that was rushing through the last few questions.

I hear it may be better to take a LSU or PFC or even BYU class for the wer or english req , due to the fact alot of schools will not accept that clep or dsst.
The above mentioned schools let you take the class at your pace and time, and give you a year or so to complete or finish it less than 3 weeks, and they are all under 450.00 dollars for the 3 unit class, which is really cheap and doable as they say.
Good Luck!
