Does a higher "retake" test knock off the lower one?
#1
I guess, first I should ask if I understand this correctly.

When you send all of your previous exams to Excelsior, do they assign them a letter grade and factor it into your gpa?

If so, and you have a low passing CLEP and are concerned about your gpa, should you retake that CLEP to get a higher grade assigned to it? Does retaking it erase the previous lower passing exam grade? Should this be done before you even send your old scores to excelsior?

I believe CLEP and DANTES scores do not show up if you fail only EC tests.

Cleps are scored as pass/fail only at Excelsior. They do not factor into your GPA. Dantes are scored as a letter grade and do factor into your GPA, but they only record scores of C or above. Any failing tests are not accepted and not shown on your transcripts.

is there a chart somewhere that I can use to find out my letter grade for dantes?

A "C" can really bring down a GPA.

Oh, and does retaking it erase the previous lower grade even if it was already passing?

After logging in, go to Publications, it's called Student Guide and Assessment Catalog. I believe the first grade will still appear on your transcript even if you scored a "C" for a DANTES exam.

Now, the catalog states that the reason that they don't assign a letter grade to the CLEP anymore is because they don't have suffifiant data on the new computer based tests. My education office is still giving the paper based tests with the scantron sheets. I wonder if they will give these a letter grade or if they stopped giving letter grades for CLEPs alltogether. The two in question are English Comp w/o essay (which I need to retake anyway to get the essay part) and Humanities. Both of these exams I got a 60.

The good news is that on the two Dantes that I already have, Ethics in America and Environment and Humanity, I got an A.

The four that I am waiting for results are US Hist I & II and College Math (all paper based cleps) and Principles of Public Speaking (the only Dantes but I think I did really good).
