NOT the OP
I have not taken an english course in over 10 years especially college level(any college level course) and it feels overwhelming. It would be nice to be able to see an example of the milestones or a step by step guide to how to do it. Even the first milestone directions have me stumped.
What are the resources and are they class specific, is there a discussion group somewhere in Brightspace or are there examples of the milestones I can see.

YourPace doesn't have examples. If you have questions or need help, email your professor. Most are happy to help. That's what they're there for.
There isn't a discussion as you're supposed to work independently and seeing other student's work could violate the honor code. Plagiarism is a huge problem today.

I was one of the people who initially complained due to having a certain expectation based off other's experience. Once I understood what I needed to do, it was actually a quick course. Here is a tip I have: when writing your milestone papers write closer to the 1000words than the 500. It will make putting the final assessment portfolio together quicker. I personally went ahead and wrote the 1000 words instead of the 500. It saved me for having to get a draft assessed bc my milestones were already assessed as exemplary and my word count was already met. The 4 audios assignments is pretty straightforward. Took me less than 10 mins to do. Just explain how you did your research paper.
Hello
currently in eng 121 and struggling to get through milestone 1, I am honestly confused by the instructions and would love if you could point me in the right direction. How did you come to understand what you needed to aside from making things portfolio ready from the get go.

Wow that sucks. I had to drop out of university years ago due to a learning disability, and recently switched from WGU to UMPI specifically to avoid the tests. I was able to get through WGU classes that were papers, because I saw an example of what I needed to do so I could start them and get drafts revisited. This unfortunately is how I learn when I come across something new. If there are no examples I am lost on what to do.
I've put off going back to school for years and am now on my second attempt at an at your pace school and this class for the last ten days has been demoralizing as one of my first two classes. The other course is straightforward in the instructions and I know exactly what to do but this english class just hits me with a rough first milestone. Its feeling like this isn't for me already.

Email the professor. They will help you. If you have a learning disability, you should let UMPI know because there are disability services available.

I strongly recommend Study.com English Composition I and II. Yes, Study.com is not the cheapest option, it has more papers (not too much more - 3 x 1500 words), but English is not among my best subjects. Study.com's English gave me some peace of mind to not worry about grades. My English Composition II "grade" was 90. Could I have passed the UMPI English classes? Possibly. But if I had to choose again, I would stilll pick Study.com.

I emailed the professor.
I really hate taking gen ed classes that are made hard for no reason, I was doing so well in my major course and then this english course broke my momentum. I will have no use in my career for complex academic papers like this. This class has been demoralizing.
My 'disability' is undiagnosed self observed learning limitation of mine where I either get As or Fs in classes depending on the type. Tests and memorization are my enemy, being able to practice something and see the end goal examples are how I learn at my best. I am doing well in my major course it is Eng 121's structure and instructions that are confusing not least of all it comes out of left field with the previous learning (reading) material having little to do with what is in the milestone.
thanks for the help

I originally complained about the ENG 121 course being too much but I think its not that bad when you really think about it. I’m almost done with on milestone 3 and it has been smooth so far so hopefully I will be done with the course by next week.

With all the chatter in regards to English I/II for UMPI, is it still better to complete it on BrightSpace, or would it be better to recommend using alternative credit and take another two from UMPI instead? I would recommend a balance of 10 'easier' residency courses...

I think it is still better to complete it through UMPI due to the fact that you can actually finish this course in a week if you really are a good writer. Personally, I hate Sophia’s ENG courses they are too long and take forever to get you feedback for your touchstones..

I spent 70+ days on Eng Comp 2 on Sophia and still had 1 more paper to go. The grading was horrible. I lost points for things not in the rubric in every paper except 1. I had the same grader for 5 out of 6 papers. I really wondered if the grader hated my topic. I never recommend Eng Comp from Sophia. It's just dreadful.
