Hi All,
I'd really appreciate some guidance! Can anyone tell me which edition of Aronson's Social Psych text is the best match for EC's Social Psych exam?
I was burned by EC's Ab Psych in that the recommended text edition (Kring 12th ed.) contained updated material that never appeared on my test. The practice exams for Ab Psych used all DSM-IV-TR terms, the Kring text referenced the new DSM-5, and the EC Study Guide mentioned both the DSM-IV-TR and DSM-5 (go figure!)... Confused by the discrepancies, I ended up studying both...I'd like to avoid the same problem with Social Psych and purchase the text that contains the information needed for the actual test!
The EC Study Guide recommends the 8th edition of the Aronson text - if anyone has taken EC's Social Psych exam recently, which edition of Aronson did you find the most useful?
Thanks so much.

I took the test just a couple of weeks ago. I used the sixth edition, that I bought for $2 on Amazon, and it was sufficient. There were only one or two questions that I really had not read about. Print out the UEXEL Official Content Guide, find and study the answers to everything on their outline, and you should be good. I am currently studying for Psych of Adulthood and aging, but will be doing Abn Psych in the near future. Which text did you feel was ultimately
the most useful for that?

Hi ZsaZsa - love the photo of your gorgeous kitty!
Thanks so much for your help - I did print out the UExcel Content Guide for Social Psych and have been working my way through that along with the Aronson text. I can see from your note that I shouldn't have bothered purchasing Aronson's 8th edition -$2.00 for a 6th ed vs. $100+ for my 8th ed - YIKES! I see there's a free companion website for the 6th edition with quizes, so I'll see how the info there compares to the newer 8th edition material.
As a far as Ab Psych is concerned - I found that along with the EC Content Guide, the BEST resource for Ab Psych were the two $75 practice tests - well worth the money in my opinion, as they contained the same general material I found on my actual test. This is a big deal for Ab Psych because as I mentioned, the new EC recommended text (Kring 12th ed) focuses on transitioning to the DSM-5 which has new categories, new terminology, etc. NONE of which showed up on my test. I also used the free Kring student website which has little quizes and flashcards - but again, this went with the 12th edition - here's the website if you want to check it out -
Kring, Johnson, Davison, Neale: Abnormal Psychology, 12th Edition - Student Companion Site
I also found a Quizlet that helped me with the older DSM terminology - it's good for when you want a break from the textbook.

If I ever finish Social Psych, my next goal is Psych of A & A, then Gerontology - I'm burned out with Psychology:ack:, but I need upper level credits and my theory is it's easier to stick with one subject and take advantage of the overlap of information...this being said, I'm having a very hard time moving along and keeping myself motivated...
Again, thanks for the help - if you need any more info regarding Ab Psych let me know.

This week I took Psych of Adulthood and Aging- got an A! Am waiting to hear from the local library if they can borrow the text for Abnormal Psych through interlibrary loan, since only the most recent edition seems to have the updated ICD-9 diagnosis codes, and even the used ones are tooooo expensive. Thanks SuZQ2 for your insights.

I don't know if taking EC courses is in your plans, but starting this summer Abnormal Psychology will be offered as a course, its listed in my maplanner as a future course. Don't know how accurate it is though.
