ECE Exams ?
#1
I'm considering taking a ECE exam or two but am getting really frustrated with the system. This whole process seems really.... "antiquated", can somebody give me a sanity check here?

- So, to take an ECE exam I have to have an account with Excelsior
- then I register for the test with them, and give them $250.
- Then, having gotten my excelsior id, I have to register with Pearson VUE to take the test.
- BUT I can't use my existing pearson account I have to set up a "special" Excelsior pearson account.
- I then have to give the testing center a 25-50 proctor fee.
- THEN I have to wait 4-6 weeks for my scores to be electronically transmitted back to my college

this whole process seems really masochistic, am I missing something? I'd really like to take advantage of some of the ECE exams but for all of the trouble I may just have to find some alternate CLEP or DSST options.

They can't really be making it this difficult.... can they?

- THEN I have to wait 4-6 weeks for my scores to be electronically transmitted back to my college. You (personally) will get the results instantly after the exam. The exams scores are sent via transcript (you will need to arrange for this and pay a small fee) from Excelsior and arrive in a week to your school

The first few items on your list are correct. I highlighted in red the areas that I experienced differently. It seems like a lot of extra hoopla but Pearson Vue does it this way because they handle hundreds of different types of testing clients (dental, real estate, accounting, insurance, medical boards, you name it) and so there is more involved to keep track of hundreds of clients. My Pearson Vue center is busy 7 days a week -- 12 hours a day. They don't just do Excelsior tests. It is a very well organized and professional testing center-- I had great experience dealing with them.

thanks for the reply creative. I didn't realize there was an additional transcript fee as well. Based on this I think I'm relegating ECEs to "worst case scenario options" status.

I've taken a hand full of dsst's and about 10 computer certifications using VUE and Prometric, so I'm familiar with the process. For now I'll just stick with clep/dsst, at 1/3 the price and frustration :-P But at least I know what the process is, just in case. They do have a lot of options. It's good to know.

Anyway, thanks again for the info!

It still sounds easier than taking a TECEP. I found a proctor here in Denver (Regis) and I had a couple of questions for TESC before I filled out the online form and submitted payment. I have contacted them now several times and still have yet to hear back.

SO bummed because I really want to take the sales management TECEP. I've been in sales for years so this one is a no-brainer, but if they don't get back to me, I'll have to get my UL credit elsewhere.. possibly an ECE exam.

grauwulf- Yes, if you don't need to take an ECE by all means stick with Clep and Dsst. In my case, I needed UL credit Psych exams so I had no choice. Still, they are better than taking a course so if you need them they are not a bad option Smile
