Does TESU still have a BA in Social Sciences?
#1
I want to earn a BA in History, but finding an affordable Historical Methods/Historiography course is difficult. The best I could find was FHSU at about $669. To avoid this cost, I think a BA in Social Sciences would be perhaps of equal value on my resume ( I want to teach middle school or high school Social Studies).

I found old degree plans on the wiki for a BA in Social Sciences, but when I go to TESU.edu, I cannot find this degree listed. I logged into TESU's Online Student Services and chose "Academic Evaluation", it reports "This program is not associated with any catalogs for which your institution permits program evaluations over the Web."

Does TESU no longer have this program?

It is not available any longer. I believe it was replaced by Liberal Studies and the included concentrations.

Okay, maybe I will try Excelsior College. I found they have a BA in History. Will the costs be similar to TESU?

I have been eyeing this graduate certificate. The certificate takes four graduate classes at $600 each. The credits are transcripted as SOC, so you could take two more SOC classes to get 18 and teach community college or dual enrollment classes.

Same thing for economics/personal financial literatcy.

Also, check out these NEH summer scholar programs. Most are paid for via stipends and most have ways to earn graduate credit.

The EC degree is going to be much harder to get, with 18cr of UL required:
2 US History courses that are intermediate & UL courses (so not US History I & II)
- CSU-Global's US History after 1945 (UL) $250
- DSST for Civil War (UL) $100
2 European History courses that are intermediate & UL courses
- Shmoop's European History course MAY count as intermediate, but it's not UL
2 Non-Western/World History courses that are intermediate & UL courses
- Soviet Union DSST (UL) $100
History Electives
DSST for Vietnam War (UL) $100
UExcel's World Conflicts (UL) $145
SecularCourses' Eastern European Jewish Immigration and Settlement in the US (UL) $150

So you're going to need to find an int/UL European History course, and a Non-Western/World History int/UL course (unless they will count the Vietnam War as non-western), which means you'll be having to look at the schools on here that do self-paced or IS courses, meaning $500 and up.

I think you're probably better off sticking with TESU, or else doing COSC's BA in General Studies with a Concentration in History instead. There are far fewer requirements.

What does that mean when a course is considered intermediate?

It means not introductory, not 100-level.  But I don't know what EC will consider Shmoop's European History course.  If they consider it a 100-level course, then you would need 2 courses instead of just 1.
