Does Charter Oak grant 3rd degrees?
#61
Does APU/AMU allow a third? Or if anyone knows about FHSU, SNHU, UALR, or other cheap schools?

Did they finally get back to you?  This sounds neat.  So COSC and Excelsior College seem to have the same policy for a 3rd BS degree. Smile   TESU is still a no-go.

I emailed them again, but this time, I expressed interest in a specific program and stated my reasons. I was told to email the Director of Admissions. First, she told me no because she assumed I wouldn't know where to get the transfer credits. I told her my plan, and she finally gave me a yes. I don't think COSC likes to advertise that they'll consider awarding third degrees.

Can you share what the 3rd degree is in vs the first two?  EC demands the 3rd degree be in a different field. No BS in finance and then a BS in business etc.

I have degrees in social science and business administration/computer information systems. I asked about the BS in General Studies with a concentration in Biology.

If you don't mind sharing, why are you pursuing a third bachelor's degree when you already have two others, a masters and grad cert, and are working on a PhD?

Outside of changing careers, meeting academic prerequisites, or just the personal satisfaction of saying you did it, I have a hard time seeing the value of a second bachelor's degree, much less a third... at least from my own perspective. Particularly once you start down the path of postgraduate education. So I'm curious to learn more about your goals in getting a BSGS on top of your existing credentials.

Personally, I've thought about getting a CS (or Software Development) degree from WGU or TESU. I figure it would help to pad my academic resume in case I decide to attempt to get into a good masters or doctorate level CS program, plus it would quiet the voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me I should get a CS degree since it should be fairly easy for me to do given my background and experience. But I have a hard time justifying the additional effort and expense for a second bachelor's degree when I could be using that time to work on a master's or doctorate. Plus I really don't want to deal with more math unless I have to.
Working on: Debating whether I want to pursue a doctoral program or maybe another master's degree in 2022-23

I likely won't finish the third bachelor's degree, but I am making a career change with my second master's degree.

Cool... That's interesting, I didn't know you were wanting to make a career change. My first choice actually was a BA Biology but because it was not as test-out friendly using alternative means at TESU, I chose to do my third choice - which was a BSBA as a check the box degree. I am currently working on the second choice right now, the BA Comp Sci as it'll open more doors for me in my field which is related to CS/IT for the health care providers in my area.

Which career are shooting for now? I recall you got a Grad Certificate in Counter Terrorism or something along those lines in addition to your first Masters - BTW, what was your first Masters? Is the current Masters you're working on related to your field that you want to get into? I am not looking for a career change, but want to further my education in the Biology field just for kicks. I am not yet looking into a manager position as that's not what I want to do, maybe when I am closer to retirement.

My first master's degree is in security studies, which is a sub-field of international relations. I wanted to get into intelligence, but that's difficult to do without having done it in the military.

Before I applied to the CJ PhD program, I wanted to get a doctorate related to public health, but online options were more limited back then. I also didn't have the prerequisite master's related to public health.

I'm looking to get into environmental and occupational safety, emergency management, or public health. They're all related; my ideal job would be in public health emergency management.

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have enrolled in the CJ program. I would have gone back for a second master's in public health first.

I'm considering undergrad Biology somewhere, but I don't want a concentration in Bio. I'm surprised that TESU requires two semesters of OChem (versus one), but I haven't looked at other schools' requirements. UNE wants prereqs completed in the past 7 years.

I think two semesters of organic chemistry is standard. Did you see my thread on Logan University?

I missed that one before. Thanks!

I would probably have to do the BA in Biology from TESU if I'm going to. Since I want the CompSci from TESU. Not sure I want three undergrad.

Logan University is still a cheap source of science credits. It's cheaper than getting them at UNE or UC Berkeley Extension. You should take a look at my UCSD Extension thread and ask TESU if they'll accept their credits. Include the link that explains which course codes are credit-bearing.
