Does Anyone Know APA Format for EC Class?
#1
Hey all!

I have a paper due for my EC online class and it has to be done in APA format. I've never done anything in that format, so I was a little lost. I have everything figured out except the in-text citations. I have looked at several websites and they don't give you specific instructions for use and the examples have me confused. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

If I use info or a quote do I list the author and date at the beginning of the info or quote and again at the end? That is how it looks on some of the examples so I don't know if that duplicate citing is just for full quotes or all the time. What about a site like the US Census bureau? Does that info need to be cited in-text as well or is a mention in the paper with it in the reference good enough? Also when I reference websites in-text do they need to include the retrieval date or is that just for the reference page?

I don't want to blow this paper since I have a straight A in the class, but I'm not a psych major and I just can't find a good reference that explains the reason and usage.

I know there are a lot of Psych majors so I thought someone would be able to help me!
Thanks!

Here's a website that one of my son's professor posted as a resource. You can pick and choose what format after it does the default which I think is MLA. This site is unique from some of the others in that you can put in the ISBN or URL of a webpage and it will pull the information for you. Citation machine and MS Word and others require you to manually enter the info. Don't forget the in text citations and not just the references at the end.

I spent my last two semesters typing at least two papers a week in APA format for different classes. I may be able to answer your questions.

First question for you, are you using the 5th edition APA? I think it is the latest edition.

If so, then for in text citations I will give examples:

For website usage we used many ways, but the most important is to be
consistent throughout the entire paper. Example for a website by American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross (2009) states such and such.........continuing to paraphrase and cited the same as mentioned above at the end of the paragraph (American Red Cross, 2009).

If you are not mentioning them in your paper (i.e. stating such and such) and just referencing the material it is cited with the source at the end of the paragraph (Thompson, 2009).

Hope that helps.

BTW, the Owl Purdue site that someone above mentioned is Great! Look there as well.
