Doctorate Question
#1
Ok, so my boss keeps bugging me to go for my doctorate, but I'm not so sure. Here is my problem, first I'm getting tired of school due to my pace with school for the last 3 years. That coupled with the fact that I'm truly tired and fed up with writing papers and I don't like research for the sake of writing papers. This makes me think that a doctorate isn't or shouldn't be in my future. I know this group is full of knowledge and resources so here goes:

Does anyone know of a doctorate program that doesn't require a dissertation or heavy research project? I don't mind completing a project, but have no desire at my age to try to do a heavy research project then try to write a 700 page dissertation. I don't mind doing an oral presentation / defense or a project with a reasonable paper. What is the shortest doctorate program that anyone knows of? I have looked at some that are 97 credits! That would be ridiculous at my age.

Does anyone know of a short and sweet doctoral program that doesn't require a dissertation or cost a fortune? I would prefer the subject area to be education, healthcare or health science or possibly health information as these are my preferred subjects. I like psych too, but those are usually PhD programs and in comes the research and dissertations I want to avoid.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I thought I would ask.

Thanks!

Ryoder, great option, but that wouldn't work for me since I teach at the college level it won't be recognized. I would have to do some type of doctorate for it to count. It also has to be from an RA school.

Thats too bad. Doctorates are expensive and time consuming. Figure 50k and 3-4 years for a low cost RA. The other degree site is better suited to doctorate questions. I'll probably finish mine in 2 years but who knows.
NCU has EdD, DBA and CAGS which you can apply toward the EdD or DBA. Enrolling in a CAGS might get your boss off your back and would give you 18 more doctorate level credits.

Well, here's one possibility:

Doctor of Strategic Leadership (DSL): Degree Requirements - School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship - Regent University

No dissertation is required, but "successful completion of coursework, integrative paper and the DSL Project" is. You have 7 years to finish and also have "3 campus residencies".

Another is this one:

Doctor of Health Education Degree Online | Distance Learning A.T. Still University

100% online with no dissertation, but 94 credits are required.

How about a doctorate in management or computer science? CTU might be what you are looking for:

Doctoral Programs, Executive Format Doctoral Degrees - CTU Grad Programs
BA in History, TESC, Graduated September 2010
MA in History, American Public University, currently pursuing
Virginia teaching license, currently pursuing

I strongly considered CTU for its Comp Sci doctorate. The school requires 3 published papers, however. That may be easier than one massive dissertation but who knows. Their advisors are very amiable.

The A.T. Still program does have a dissertation.
