Diploma Arrived today - Diploma Frame Question
#1
Ok, so my MHA diploma arrived today. It is larger than my undergrad diplomas and I want to frame it nicely. Does anyone have a sugggestion on where to find a nice diploma frame? The ones offered by the school's announcement company don't impress me and they seem very expensive. I found another company online, but they promote that their frame use plexiglass instead of glass. I hate the thoughts of paying over $100 for frame if it won't really be nice. Before I fork out so much money I thought I would ask if anyone has any suggestions on a good place to go for my frame. Thanks!

Do you have a Michaels or an AC Moore near you? They always have some great framing options.
Also go online and get a coupon for the store alot of times it is 50% off of framing.
You just might have to have one made for it. Make sure there is an adequate matt around it.
Nothing worse than something not matted properly.
Congrats on your new diploma. AGAIN Smile

I second Michael's....they own their own frame manufacturing and are surprisingly affordable. Document You can probably buy a frame/mat of the rack that looks great.

I third Michaels, so the motion carries! Smile

I had them frame my BA in History and it turned out great! It was a bit pricey but after chacing the dream for a degree for so long it was worth every penny!!!

Ok, I guess Michael's wins! I love diplomacy! My closest Michaels is 45 minutes away, but I have to go that way on Friday, so I will stop in and see what they say. I found one I liked at an online diploma framing site, so maybe I will take a picture to Michael's and compare their prices and options. Thanks for your help. Does everyone recommend glass or plexiglass? Does is make a difference? I'm worried about fading or damage under the fluorescent lights at work so I think treated glass is a better option. Has anyone had any experience with this? I just want to make sure I take care of this "valuable" piece of paper! I still can't believe I have reached this milestone, so I have to see it framed and hanging on the wall before I will believe it!

I made a nice copy of my diploma on card stock and put that up at work...I prefer keeping the original at home. I like glass, just looks better to me.

Congrats BTW if I haven't already said so! Smile

As a professional picture framer let me give you some advice - If you live in an earthquake prone area - go for plexiglass - the cons with plexiglass is that it scratches very easily but does survive sudden drops.
Otherwise use regular picture frame glass with UV filtering - those horrible fluorescent lights will most definitely fade your diploma, also sunlight coming from windows or reflected off glaring surfaces.
The idea of making and framing a copy of your diploma is excellent. This is especially helpful if a business or institution wants to see the actual document outside the frame which means having to unframe your framed diploma (yes, it's been known to happen, we've done it).
Framing suggestions - JoAnn fabrics, Ben Franklin Crafts, or your local Framing Gallery.
Congratulations!

I forget exactly what they did at Michael's but the way I had them frame it was to address the concerns you raise as well. I'd talk them about it. I can tell you that it turned out great!

Ok, so I tried to get some high quality copies made at Staples so I don't risk the flourescent lights damaging my originals but Staples won't make copies of diplomas except in black and white! Where did anyone here get color copies made? My MHA diploma is 11" x 17" so I can't use my printer at home. I did order my frame at Michael's, thanks for that suggestion. For anyone considering such a frame they are running a 55% off sale right now.
