Did anyone notice the new TESC equivalencies for Straighterline courses?
#1
I don't know how long these have been up, but I just noticed them last night.

Straighterline course to TESC

Financial accounting - Intermediate Accounting I
Microbiology - BIO 351 (someone argued with me that microbiology would not be UL)
Introduction to Communications - Fundamentals of Speech
Introduction to Nutrition - BIO-208 The Science of Nutrition (I think this is a change.)

These are just some of the major ones I've noticed. It was pretty obvious how the other new courses would be transcribed.

I didn't notice those.
(I argued CC Microbiology would be LL a while back, which I still believe is the case. Plenty of people need UL science, this is a find!!)

What I wonder, is for those of us who took Microbiology at the CC, if this would then be non-duplication of credit? Hummmm.... They have to pick, and if given the opportunity, I'd re-take it with SL in a heartbeat. I'm 3 classes shy of a Natural Science degree w/TESC, and guess what one of those classes is? You guessed it, an UL biology!

Thanks for mentioning this Sanantone. I recently seen one of the other threads where TESC wasn't awarding UL credit for CC courses. I realize that SL isn't a CC, but I was a little worried that TESC's new policies might affect SL as well. This helps ease some of my concerns.

So here is a list of the SL courses worth UL credit---
ACC 303 - Cost Accounting
BIO 351 - Microbiology (the SL listing has the lab and non-lab credits for TESC reversed)
COM 300 - Business Communications
PHI 384 - Ethics and the Business Professional
MAN 311 - Organizational Behavior (can also be recorded as PSY361)
MAN 301 - Principles of Management
REL 405 - Introduction to World Religions

Funny, you posted this. I was looking at the transferred credits this morning. I had compared them with both Excelsior and Ashford, and have decided to transferred over the TESC instead of paying my $300 annual fee to excelsior since I can complete 30 credits through Straighterline for my program.

This really bothers me. If I go to my local community college for a Microbiology course that has a lab and it is hard and I get an A I only get 200 level credit. If I do Straighterline Micro with lab which I just need a 70% to pass and it is an open book exam I get 300 level credit????? Something is wrong with that.

OK It bothered me because I was thinking of taking Micro to help in my local job search so I called TESC. I was lucky I got someone willing to get confirmation on this because I was an enrolled student for so long. The policy is no upperlevel credit for Community college courses, but yes the Straighterline equivalencies currently posted are correct.

So now I'm REALLLLYYYYYYY curious if I could duplicate. Hummmm....
But yes, it's a joke. But, at least it's a joke with a written policy. I love written policy, makes exploitation soo much easier.

Of course it's crap. Anyone who has taken miro will tell you that it's a hard class. I didn't think my version was especially hard (I got lucky at Ocean) but it could have been ridiculous with a different instructor. To say that SL trumps CC is funny lol.

I argued that the ECE and Straighterline course for Microbiology would be UL.

I have no problem with the ECE or straighterline Micro being upper level I have a problem with the CC micro not being upper level. I think the person I spoke to agreed but could not say that directly.
