Degree plan help
#1
Hello, I have just started this process to get a degree as fast as possible... At the moment I am a bit overwhelmed because this sort of thing is not at all my forte. I am 30 and have been out of this sphere since high school. I really want to try and get a degree as fast and cheap as possible. I have reached the apex of what I can do without one. I say "A degree" because I am not sure what to get. It almost doesn't matter which degree I get as long as I have one. I am most interested in Environmental Science, Ecology, or Psychology but like I said, cheapest, fastest or most useful may outweigh my preferences. The courses already under my belt are;

CLEP

·     Spanish Language Levels 1 and 2
·     Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
·     American Government
·     Introductory Sociology
·     History of the United States I: Early Colonization to 1877
·     History of the United States II: 1865 to the Present
·     Social Sciences and History
·     Western Civilization I: Ancient Near East to 1648
·     Western Civilization II: 1648 to the Present

DSST
·     Ethics in America
·     Human/Cultural Geography
·     Introduction to World Religions
·     Public Speaking

I am also an EMT which I think can add credit and colleges like Thomas Edison.
Any assistance/suggestions would be super helpful. THANKS!

The degrees you listed are not going to be fast or cheap, so I'm going to give you a spreadsheet showing what you've already taken (including what TESU will give you for the NREMT credential), for the BALS - just a Liberal Studies degree.  With your CLEP, DSST, and EMT, you are almost halfway done with it.

The spreadsheet lists the quick/inexpensive ways to get the courses you need.  I would suggest that you apply for the Study.com Scholarship (6 free courses over 3 months), and take any free courses available.

If you are fluent in Spanish, you can take the OPIc, WPT, RPT, and LPT exams.  I think OPIc is $105, and you'll get 6cr UL and 6cr LL for it.  WPT is another $105 and you'll get non-duplicating credit (6UL, 6LL).  This is about the easiest, cheapest UL credits you can get.  RPT and LPT are both 6cr of LL, so not as good, but still easy if you're a native-speaker. *OPIc is Oral Proficiency, computerized, WPT is Written Proficiency Test, RPT is Reading Proficiency Test, and LPT is Listening Proficiency Test).

If you are liking the CLEP and DSST, I would take English Comp - either the CLEP College Comp w/Essay for 6cr (English Comp I & II) or the CLEP College Comp Modular for 3cr and the DSST Advanced English Comp which together will count for your requirements, but each is a multiple-choice only exam.  This is going to be faster than the courses.

Saylor is also only $25/exam, and you can get a lot of credits that way.

Shmoop is only $88/mo for unlimited courses, but there are very mixed reviews for it.  If you think you might like to get your UL credit in Literature courses, this is the way to do it.

If you like History, Study.com and DSST have UL history courses for you.
