That is an Associate in Arts in General Studies from TESC. It fulfills the General Ed requirements for TESC Bachelor of Arts degrees too.

Cathgrl, nice job on the degree plan for TESC! The only thing that might be problematic is the General Ed elective section. Child development (3 EDUC), first aid (2 PE), weight training (1 PE), and Principles of Management (3 BUS) are free electives, not general ed, so she would need to replace those with other general ed credits.

One of the biggest advantages about TESC is the lack of Capstone for the AA, as well as the price when you take TECEPs.

I agree with KayV, below are some options for both GenEd and TECEP exams. You only need 4 TECEPs to take advantage of Pay Per Credit Tuition @ TESC. The rest of the credits can be taken by DSST/CLEP/SL etc, whatever method is best for your.


Confirm the TECEP Environmental Ethics, a new exam, would fulfill the ethical leadership requirement. If not, Ethics in America DSST, Business Ethics SL, Business Ethics and Society DSST have been used for that slot.

General Ed recommendations - I found all of these exams easily doable but listed by order of what I thought was the easiest.

Could you explain the comment highlighted in red. Does this mean TESC requires 4 classes or TECEPs be taken in order to accept DSST/CLEP/SL? How do you prepare for TECEP tests?

In order to graduate from TESC you have to fulfill a residency requirement if you're military or if you're using the per credit tuition plan. I don't think you need it if you're using the enrolled options or comprehensive plan.

If you don't take enough credits in some form from TESC the only way to graduate semi cheaply if you're transferring everything in is with the enrolled options plan if I understand correctly. Which for out of state students is pretty expensive just to graduate.

You would study for a TECEP the same way as you study for any other exam. On the TECEP exam page there are test descriptions which give you a breakdown on what's covered on the exam. Note: TECEPs are geared towards the recommended text which you can usually get fairly cheap by purchasing a later edition (go back 1 or 2 editions from current). I know IC has cards for Public Relations & Thought Practice, Operations Management and Strategic Management. Also Saylor has prep material that covers a few others. Either search the forum or visit saylor.org for that information.


Below are links to my posts explaining the plan, comparing pricing as well as a BSBA degree plan utilizing TECEPs. You would just follow the same example by using your AA Plan and inlcuding 4 TECEPs to meet the 12CR associates degree residency requirement. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. We applied last night and are going to submit official transcripts today. During the wait period for them to review it she can get started on some of the course tests you've shown in this thread that we know she will need. Any suggestions where to start? Something easier for her first DSST/CLEP/SL test to kind of intro her to the whole process?

We received her college credit evaluation last night! We are as confused as before, but it appears they have applied many credits that fulfill requirements. Anyone with a good eye here able to determine exactly which classes required and the equivelent DSST/CLEP, etc that would fulfill those?
