Degree Planning Advice help
#1
Star
Hey guys! This place has been invaluable in my quest to finally get a degree. I've spent a ton of time trying to figure out which path I want to take and I believe I'm finally at the point where I could use your help. I initially made myself an excel sheet for Excelsior but I have recently changed my mind to UMPI instead. Saying that, ANY help will be greatly appreciated!!

Location: North Carolina
Age: 34
Wanted degree: BABA in Management and Leadership, Supply Chain Management, or Project Management (I can't decide)
Current Credits from Community College: *All A's except a C in Intro to Bus
  • College transfer Success: 1 credit
  • ENG 111 Expository Writing: 3 credit
  • SPA 111 Elementary Spanish 1: 3 credits
  • CHM 151 General Chemistry 1 and Lab: 4 credits
  • CHM 152 General Chemistry 2 plus Lab: 4 credits
  • HIS 121 Western Civilization I: 3 credits
  • PHI 215 Philosophical Issues: 3 credits
  • PSY 150 General Psychology: 3 credits
  • ANT 220 Cultural Anthropology: 3 credits
  • ENG 112 Writing/Research: 3 credits
  • ENG 131 Intro to Lit: 3 credits
  • ECO Principles of Microeconomics
  • BUS 110 Intro to Business
  • BUS 137 Principles of Management
Classes taken through Sophia:
  • Intro to Business (Refresher)
  • Art History I
  • Business Law
  • Financial Accounting
  • Intro to Ethics
  • Intro to IT
  • Intro to Nutrition
  • Intro to Sociology
  • Macroeconomics
  • Visual Communications
  • College Algebra
  • Principles of Finance
  • Plans to take Business communication and Biology next week
study.com Classes I plan to take:
  • Bus 220
  • Bus 244
  • Bus 353
  • Bus 240
I believe I will have too many credits but I want to be as close to 90 credits transferred as possible before applying.

Budget: Not a concern. Work covers $10k per year. I can cover anything else but it shouldn't go over. No other assistance needed.
Commitments: wife and dogs plus constant overtime.
Time to Study: A few hours per day at least plus some on most weekends. I have an office at work and I am fortunate enough to be able to work on some stuff there.
Timeline: Ideally around one year.

Please let me know if I missed anything!

@wj123, Welcome to the board. Wow... You've planned this out pretty well, you've got the Language and the Science/Lab requirement completed, you can just apply and wait for an evaluation. Max out the credits from Sophia.org if any are missing and start at the earliest session you can, you just need to finish the 30 credits or so from UMPI to complete the requirements for the degree!

The study.com course I haven’t started yet. I will start those in 2 weeks if everything works out. I picked 4 that would be needed for all three possible degrees. If those work then awesome! I’ll have knocked out 42 credits on sophia in 1.5 months working 55+ hours per week.   Big Grin

I would also take BUS 415 at SDC, as that is in all 3 majors as well. And I'd take American Govt at Sophia too. With the BABA, you have at least 10 courses to take between the core the concentration no matter which concentration you choose, so make it easy on yourself and get as much as you can out of the way if you can.
TESU BSBA/HR 2018 - WVNCC BOG AAS 2017 - GGU Cert in Mgmt 2000

Okay I added those to the list. I was worried I would have way over the 90 credit transfer limit but UMPI does count some of them differently so it will probably be better to be over just in case. Thanks!

IMO, being slightly over is usually better than being slightly under and having to pay for an extra session.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

True that. I also will have two weeks left in Sophia so I might as well.

Another question, should I take study.com’s Accounting 301 or can I get away with accounting 102? I’ve seen both mentioned here so I want to be sure.

Accounting 301: Applied Managerial Accounting
Business 220: Managerial Accounting
3 lower

That's the only one that transfers in for BUS220. Accounting 102 is a business elective not BUS220.

From UMPI's transfer database:
SDCM 0076
Intro to Managerial Accounting
3.00
BUS 1XX
Business Elective
3.00
