Any certifications or military experience? None

Budget: Up to 10K, but less is much better.
Commitments: I have weekends and evenings to work on school but I have a lot going on. Asynchronous and self-paced seem attractive to me because work can be intermittently demanding.
Dedicated time to study: I can study most nights and one day a weekend. Reading and writing are not too bad for me, and I'm a decent test-taker. My husband attended an online school pre-2020 with very limited online support and proctored tests that were stressful (timed, glitchy, several retakes of 150+ question exams because of glitches). I'm wary of similar bad experiences.
Timeline: I don't want to drag this out, but I'm willing to spend more time if necessary (for example, if the school is not competency-based but has other advantages).
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None

I've been a technical writer/ software trainer for about 24 years. I started toward a music degree in 1992, so my RA credits are 30 years old. I look at this like starting over with college. I'm open to options but UMPI and TESU are frontrunners. A BSBA, BABA or BALS degree seem like my best option.

I've been reading here for a while and it's about time to apply and make a plan. So... do I finish taking more alt credits before I apply? Do I apply to a few schools to see who gives me the most credit for my transcript? Do I pick one school and just power through this? It's been a long time since I did college, and I made some bad decisions the first time. Help me do better this time!

Thanks!

Apply to both TESU and UMPI, see how the credits go, decide which degree is better for you. As mentioned, you can do a BA Music/BSBA two degree combo.

I would recommend applying for the TESU BA Music since you have all those UL music credits.  You can then email them (advising) and request they ADD a BSBA (AOS of your choice) evaluation as well (they do allow for the two without being enrolled). Even if you decide on TESU you wouldn't have to complete the combo, but it is good to know what your true options are. I mean if you're really close to the BA Music, it might be best to go for that and then go get yourself an affordable MBA to cover the business end (based on your schedule you seem like a good candidate for the $3k HAU MBA).

Wow, you really might be a wizard!  have thought of those music credits as academically useless for so long, I did not even think of looking for a music degree. Your suggestion is really eye-opening. If I can find a place to take Music History and transfer it in, I might be in really good shape.

There are some others here who have posted about getting the TESU BA in Music, one was pretty recent, the issue has always been where to get the UL credits.  I'm sure with a little searching here the answer to those music history courses are available. They can be LL to it appears, so maybe an online CC option.

I think Coopersmith has an Orthodox music history class that is ace accredited.

Thanks, I do see one there. I will see if that will fit the requirement.

Colorado Community Colleges Online offers Music History I & II https://www.ccconline.org/

I didn't look up costs, but where there is one school there will likely be others.  The key being they offer these online.

EDIT:  Other CCs that offer them Online - (no doubt there are more)
New River CC (VA) https://www.nr.edu
