Got an e-mail today from DSST about a series of 5-question quizzes ( DSST | GetCollegeCredit.com) they offer to help the student find tests he might be able to able to pass. The questions are taken from actual, retired exams. A score of 3/5 indicates you can pass the test. I was pretty excited about this, because I still need 9 UL elective credits in either arts/sciences or applied prof and had been considering DSSTs. Fortunately, several of the quizzes are for UL tests.
I've just taken the quizzes in MIS, Substance Abuse, Here's to Your Health, and World Religions, and got a passing or better score on each one.
I'd be interested in others' experiences with the quizzes. And if someone who has taken any of the corresponding tests is feeling altruistic , they could go and take the quizzes, then let us know how good of an indicator they really are of the tests.

I received this email too, quite a lofty suggestion by Prometric. I've just scored 4/5 on Here's to your health, I wonder if they'll refund my fee if I don't pass. lol

Thanks for the link!
Here are the exams I took w/ scores:
*Intro to Computers - 3
*Personal Finance - 3
*World Religions - 2
*Criminal Justice - 4
*Ethics in America - 0banghead
*Substance Abuse - 2
*MIS - 1
*HTYH - 2
Mind you...that I have not studied for any of the above at all. I just went on what's already in my brain at the present moment! And as you can see...NOT VERY MUCH!!!
I would not recommend anyone taking the above exams just because you score a 3 on the practice exam without prior study. I'm still in favor of being "properly prepared" for an exam. Plus...with money being tight (at least for me)...I am not willing to bet $80+ dollars on a whim and a prayer!!! It is nice though to get a glimpse of what's ahead though.
Be nice to hear everyone else's opinions as well.
Happy Trails!

Thanks for sharing this.
I also just found a 10 question quiz. It is probably the 5 questions you've already seen plus 5 more.
Go to the homepage: DSST - GetCollegeCredit.com
Then click "Click Here to Earn College Credits". It is in the middle on the right-hand side. (I don't know how long it will be there.)
For the test I am taking this week, I got 5/5 and 7/10. I'm not sure what to think of that. I guess I'll keep studying!
I do feel better about my score on the official practice test 40/50. ( http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...#post53500)
I'll try the fact sheet questions next.
That is good advice, Marshall.

I got the email too.
I took a few of the quizzes, and most of them were 2/5 or less...although I did get a 3/5 for World Religions (the three I got correct were about Christianity and Judaism, LOL).
I still wouldn't recommend anybody taking one without studying, though. :p

I wouldn't dream of taking any exam without studying. But I am really tired of studying these days and would love to take 3 DSSTs where I might already have a good foundation of knowledge from which to build. In other words, a week or two of studying instead of my usual 4-6 weeks.

I just tried them all... and the two that I got 5/5 on were Here's to Your Health (25 years of being a nurse- duh!) and Criminal Justice. Does this mean I can count all my hours of Law and Order and CSI as test prep? milelol:

Maybe it's time to start the DBA program through Walden that I have been riding the fence on...it will be free with my GI Bill but will require a huge investment of time.
