Quote:As far as state jobs that won't accept a CJ degree, different positions require different degrees.

This hasn't been my experience.

Typical TN State job description:

*1. Which best describes your level of education?

Did not graduate High School or obtain GED
High School or GED
Some College
Associates Degree
Bachelors Degree
1 Year Masters Degree
2 Year Masters Degree
Doctorate Degree

*2. How many UNDERGRADUATE quarter hours from an accredited college or university have you completed?
Not applicable
1-44 quarter hours
45-89 quarter hours
90-134 quarter hours
135-179 quarter hours
180 quarter hours or more

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to three years of professional [whatever the job is] work.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in [whatever the job is] or other related acceptable fields may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of one year.

Typical Federal job:

One full year of graduate level education in social sciences, business or public administration, behavioral sciences, and sociology. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full- time study.

Texas must be picky! Wink

At any rate, best wishes towards selecting something that works for you!

I'm not interested in that either.

I've looked at, literally, thousands of state jobs over the years and have applied to many of them. If the job is related to CJ, then a CJ degree is fine. Saying that the state government does not accept CJ degrees makes absolutely no sense. There is no ban on any major. Either your degree is considered related or it isn't. You can go look at the TJJD and TDCJ job websites yourself. These are some of the jobs asking for criminal justice and other related degrees as of today.

If only I could afford to travel. :p I wouldn't need to travel, but I'm sure there are many people vying for grant money to study Colorado. Some of the research is probably already out there.

Recently I have been wondering about sexual history and incarceration. For example, how many convicts are virgins when they enter prison? How many had never looked at porn? If married at the time of conviction, how many only had sex with their spouse (one sex partner total)? How many convicts had parents who waited to have sex before marriage?

Has this sort of research already been done?
BSBA/Accounting TESU (2016). MSA UIUC (2018).

Need help with portfolios? I earned 18 credits at TESU through portfolio evaluations. Nine of those were for upper level accounting courses. My advice for PLA/portfolios: TESU portfolio tips The first post has the Portfolio Checklist I created. Page ten has the actual narrative I wrote to receive credit for ACC-440.

Using Straighterline's Financial Accounting as a substitute for TESU's Intermediate Accounting I? Don't do it if you are an accounting major and/or want your CPA license. They are not the same course and I think TESU has erred in accepting the SL course as Intermediate I. I made this discovery here: Intermediate Accounting II.

Thanks for the ideas. I don't know if research has been done on this, but I would bet a million dollars that virgins in prison are rare. Offenders tend to start having sex at an early age and many of them start having children in their teens and early twenties. It would be difficult to track down the sexual history of their parents. In general, most Americans don't wait until marriage to have sex, so I don't think there is much of a correlation between having a child who is a convict and not waiting until marriage to have sex. In 2002, 95% of the respondents to the National Survey oTof Family Growth said they had premarital sex.

Most Americans have had premarital sex, study finds - USATODAY.com

To add, since most offenders have low self-control, they are more likely to cheat on their partners.

Do you have any interest in the changing scene of organized crime in America? The players have certainly changed in recent years - and there is a huge number of books. There are theories, studies etc. e.g. how the cultural transfer gets done and how new groups succeed established ones. Any one aspect holds possibilities - e.g. money laundering. Certainly some uh - interesting personalities involved. Smile

Just a thought.

Just for fun, I Googled "Doctoral Dissertations in Organized Crime." Wow, there's a lot of stuff. First research site I got to was this one: Organized Crime Research Might be a good place to get a list for "review of relevant literature." Again, just a thought... best I can offer, as CJ is not my field. Did a paper on money-laundering for economics class once, though... Smile

Thanks. I don't think there has been much of an interest lately in organized crime since the mafias have been less active and gangs and cartels have been studied a lot. There might be interest in sex trafficking. I don't believe white collar crime is studied all that much in comparison to the crimes committed by the poor.
