Credits for the Cybersecurity Certificate?
#1
If you do the free Cybersecurity 12-credit certificate program at UoPeople, can you then transfer those credits to maybe TESU or other schools? (I know it's at the discretion of other institutions, but since UoP is now regionally accredited, I would think it could transfer to more schools than it used to.)

Most likely yes, but not as RA UoPeople credits, but ACE credits: https://www.acenet.edu/National-Guide/Pa...0d3a33232a

Our thread: Free IBM SkillsBuild Cybersecurity (12 cr) and Data Analytics (8 cr) Via UoPeople

The certificate is from IBM, not from UoPeople. It’s made available to the general public through a partnership with UoPeople. UoPeople is doing outreach, basically.

So, I guess the best step to getting this for non UofPeople students is to, apply, complete the cert, then apply for the Bachelors in Comp Sci.

I don't this the certificates transfer toward the major courses for CompSci. They would just be gen eds and electives, or mostly gen eds and electives. So no need to apply to UoPeople at all unless you already wanted to.

However, be aware that as of now UoPeople students can't enroll in these certificates, so if you want to do them, do it before becoming a UoPeople student.

Thanks for the clarification, guys. So honestly, this one and the 8 credit should definitely be considered for GE credits at all schools. 20 free credits!? That's awesome. I know Amberton and TESU require a good number of GE credits for some of their BAs - might be good to get 20 of those for FREE - And get 2 certificates to put on your resume that's worth college credits! Awesome!

My only other question would be: Since you're not technically getting a certificate from a college (it's IBM, not UoPeople), even though it's worth 12 college credits, where would YOU put this certificate on your Resume? Under EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENTS or PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS? You didn't "graduate" from IBM with a college certificate in Cybersecurity, but you did gain 12 college credits via a college intermediary...

Certificate. It doesn't count as college credit until a college accepts it as credit (until then, it's only a "recommendation"). And once you are including it in a degree, it does not stand as an independent "educational attainment"; it's just some classes you took toward your degree. But it's still a certification!

Furthermore, there is a difference between certificates and certification, being professional or not...
