Does this mean 001, 002, 003, 005 will all fall in at 100 level at TESC? I am looking for a way to fill those Gen Ed Electives
>>

I don't know where 003 will fall (maybe you could complete that one and let us know LOL?) but yes to 001, 002, 004, 005. Also, TESC counts stats prefix classes (007 and 009) as math thus work as gen ed electives.

Hi everbody,
I only need 2 english (or 6 credits) and 1 math (3 credits) to transfer and graduate with an AA from TESC, so I want to be clear about this. To fulfill my math requirement which in the catalog says "1 college level math", even MAT102 (beginning algebra) thru ALEKS qualifies????? Any help would be appreciated.

They did not say that it meets the minimum math requirement. They said it can be used as a free elective. Aleks Intermediate Algebra does meet the requirement, however.

Danielle
Thank you so much for clearing that up Danielle!
It did seem to good to be true, but I am still very glad that even Intermediate Algebra will meet the requirement. Big Grin Thanks again for such a fast response, now I'm off to ALEKS to go knock that out!
Sorry to double post but I have to ask if EC would take beginning alg. to fulfill their 3 credit math requirement?

edit: I found on page 37 of this topic, my answer. It does fulfill it!!!
I want to get as many credits out of ALEKS as I can. I am enrolling at EC as soon as they finish processing my initial evaluation (should be a a week or two more).

I plowed my way through Beg. Algebra and Int Algebra as reviews this week. I submitted the Beginning to ACE, but not the Intermediate since I took that years ago (hence needing to review) at a cc were it was a 5 credit course. Is there any chance EC will award credit for Beg. Algebra even though I have previously earned credit for Int. Algebra? Do they care what order the classes are taken in?

Of the College Algebra, College Alg w/Trig, Trig, and Pre-calc classes how many can be taken and used for EC credit? I was planning College Algebra, Trig, and Pre-Calc, in that order, for 9 a&s credits, but after reading through this thread I am concerned that would not work out.

I plan on taking a statistics course too, but I will have an EC adviser to ask by then.

Hi artcoffeewords!

EC has a Mathematics Restriction on page 17 of the 2008 Liberal Arts Catalog which says in part - “No more than three courses on the semester-hour system . . . of mathematics credit below the level of calculus may be applied to any degree. Representative titles of math courses below the level of calculus include College Math, College Algebra, Elementary Functions, Modern Math, Fundamentals of Algebra, Trigonometry, and Precalculus.”

The way I read these policies I think I could have credits for College Math CLEP (6), College Algebra (3), and Precalculus (3) that would count towards a degree. Then Statistics may count separately.

I have not checked this with EC, yet, but have discussed this on the board.

Hope this helps.

[Update: Statistics does count as math, but it does not count toward the 3 courses below calculus policy. Statistics through ALEKS counts as upper-level credit, and can be used to fulfill a depth in math.]
[Update: College Math CLEP (6 credits) counts as 2 courses below the level of Calculus. Three levels of math through ALEKS (9 LL credits) plus Statistics through ALEKS (3 UL credits) would be the least expensive way to complete a depth in Math.]

Thank you NAP. I have read through the catalog a couple of times, but missed that. So if they accept the Beg.Algebra, I can only do one more ALEKS class (not including a stats class). I have feeling that the Beg.Alg will not be accepted since I took it after (15 years after) my Int.Alg. No big deal since I spent all of 5 hours on it, just trying to clarify. I am still on my free month for another week. My son will be using the site too so I am trying to figure out whether to get the family plan or pay for us each separately. If I can only do one more math and one stats class, I will not need the 3 month minimum for the family plan.

Hi artcoffeewords!

If you have the chance to pick up some higher level math credits pretty easily, it wouldn't hurt to have the extra credits. Would it? (i.e., if your college plans change for some reason)

I don't know about going backwards, but I hope it is okay, too. I already have College Algebra and I would like to go back and pick up the 6 credits for the College Math CLEP, too. I know that some colleges do not allow this, but I don't know EC's policy.

I would really like to know if they will accept lower level math if you have higher level math too. I started at calculus in college as that is what I tested into. I would love to take some lower level math classes to fufill gen ed.
