Course/exam equivalent to DSST - Technical Writing
#1
Hi guys/gals, I am new to this forum. Have seen A LOT of great information and success stories here. Everyone seems to be pretty friendly and cooperative.

I gave my first DSST examination yesterday and got 38, whereas I needed 46 to pass. Reason for failing was that I limited myself to going over specific material and not going further out and searching for more studying material.

Anyways, I wanted to ask if there is ANY sort of course/examination which is equal to the DSST Technical Writing exam? Anything from CLEP/Excelsior etc.

Thanks in advance!

Alternatives:
TESC TECEP Exam: Technical Writing (ENG201)
Penn Foster:
Business and Technical Writing ENG121 – (ENG216)
Straighterline: Business Communications BUS105 – (COM300)

You did not mention which school you are attending? If TESC, I've noted the course equivalency in brackets. If you choose the PF or SL courses, you can retake the DSST exam in 3 months and still earn additional Hum/GenEd credits. The courses and exam material were very close in content; at least in my opinion. I took the courses a few yrs back, the requirements may have changed but I listed my experience here.

TESC:
AAS, Admin Studies. 2010
BA, Social Sciences. 2010. Arnold Fletcher Award.
AAS, Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies. 2011
BSBA, General Management. 2011. Arnold Fletcher Award. Sigma Beta Delta (ΣΒΔWink!

Will be transferring credits over to ACC.

I am unsure if ACC will accept Straightliner or Penn Foster. How about College Writing, the Excelsior examination?

I believe that Thomas Edison State College offers a TECEPÂ for Technical Writing as well:

hope this helps...

LSU has an online technical writing course
BYU has "technical communication" but I'm not sure if it's the same thing?
