Counseling, Social Work or Rehabilitation Services courses

Hi! I've been looking everywhere for distance learning courses in the Human Services area for a BS in Applied Behavioral Science- Psychology degree from Charter Oak. Does anyone know of any courses in Counseling, Social Work or Rehabilitation Services that can be used?

Why did you choose applied behavioral science over psychology? Those two degrees pretty much lead to the same types of jobs, but it's much easier to find psychology courses than counseling, social work, and rehabilitation services courses.

It's true that psychology would have been easier but I chose the ABS because of the human services aspect. I'm much more interested in taking those kinds of classes than all of the psychology courses and tests I've seen. I know they are probably similar in the end.

Do you need UL credits? BYU has Intro to Social Work. LSU has Basic Human Biology for Social Work. I'm not sure what all COSC would accept. Many colleges offer human service and social work-type courses under their psychology and sociology prefixes. Sometimes, they are under criminal justice prefixes. Penn Foster has Crisis Intervention and Substance Abuse and Treatment in Criminal Justice. There is the Foundations of Counseling and Substance Abuse DSSTs. There is the Intro to Human Service TECEP that's about to be discontinued. Appalachian State University has a self-paced course in the American Social Welfare System.

I know my local CCs offer a few online social work courses, but they aren't cheap for non-residents.

You can probably find quite a few over at CSU-Pueblo Sociology > Division of Continuing Education > Colorado State University-Pueblo Best customer service in the business (IMO), they will work with COSC via consortium agreement to meet your FA credit obligations, fully self paced, start anytine, around $450/course.

COSC is relatively lax in accepting UL credit in your concentration...if you can articulate its inclusion in your CPS (the plan you make for yourself in the cornerstone) then you can likely apply it to the 30 required hours. Remember too that COSC will allow a "dual" concentration, 18 credits UL in the primary (including 3 for the capstone) and 9-12 in the second at the UL (with I believe 18 total credits in the second concentration...so CLEP can help round that out). There is even room for an UL elective or two.

The DSST Substance Abuse is UL at COSC.

U of Idaho has a few UL that might apply as well, these are cheaper than CSU-Pueblo:

Western New Mexico Univ. has an online BA in Rehab Services....you might be able to slip into some of these if you need something specific. They offer up to 6 credits/semester at the in state rate...a pretty good bargain really. Virtual Campus - Online Programs

All of those classes sound great rebel100. I've already chosen 15 UL credits I need that will help satisfy other requirements so I would only need 15 more. The courses I have planned are:

CSU-Pueblo
Abnormal Psych
Theories of Personalities
Healthcare Ethics ( I know it's not a psych class but I'm very interested so why not)

ECE
Research Methods in Psychology

COSC
Psychology Capstone

With the 15 credits I've chosen, the lists you gave me gives me a good selection. Especially if my advisor says they're okay to meet the human services requirements. And since I'll only need 12 credits from the human services level, I was thinking about taking an UL U.S. History/American Government course somewhere to give me the full 30 UL.

My final credit audit found me 2.7 UL credits shy, I was able to knock out the DSST Civil War in about a week to graduate as planned.

Your advisor plays a vital role, but the real trick is justifying the courses on your CPS. That then gets submitted for academic review and approval. If you can justify it, you can likely use it...with the constraints of UL vs LL. Human resources Management was very doable at CSU if that fits it counts as UL and was an "easy A" IMO.

I took CSU's Nursing Ethics...great course, with an easy going syllabus. You basically pick 10 chapters from a 15 chapter book and write a 3-5 page synopses of your chosen chapters...Instructor was a real sweetheart too.
