Could somebody explain Skillsoft again?

Hi everybody, I just got access to Skillsoft courses through a new job.
How do they work? Can I just study the course, then ask the proctor at my local library to print the exam and take it there?

I'm reviving this thread as I have the same question. I tried my hardest to find information on-line. I even emailed ACE and the Army and have not received a reply. Some skillsoft courses are ACE accredited but require an approved "ACE Testing Center".

I cannot find any information on what constitutes an ACE testing center. I'm in the Air Force and have access to the skillsoft software, but the Air Force does not give procedures as the Army does.

My employer uses Skillsoft as part of our LMS, too. Here is Skillsoft's statement on ACE credit awards, where it states you may complete your learning modules and complete the exams "at either an ACE Authorized Instructional site or an ACE Authorized Testing Center." http://www.skillsoft.com/assets/credit/d...et_ace.pdf

As for how to find an ACE Authorized Testing Center, it looks like Pearson VUE is possibly one option (see caveat below). You could call ACE to find other options; I've called ACE before and they were very friendly and eager to help.

I would definitely recommend calling, though, because the ACE organization listing makes it look like credit availability is limited to government personnel unless these resources are open to the public (USDA AgLearn is a maybe, but cannot get any information right now due to the furlough). "ACE college credit recommendations are only available to participants who complete and pass the SkillSoft examinations at the following Authorized Test Sites (ATS): United States Army, USDA AgLearn and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)." Thanks for the assist. I found this info also, the hardest thing to find is an authorized test center. I did find out today that my military test center (Ramstein National Test Center) is an ACE test site. So that is good news for me, now I just need to contact an academic advisor at TESC to see if the course will count for my degree.

I have access to SkillSoft via a temporary employment agency I am signed up with, but they don't give much info on it. When I called ACE the woman I spoke to had to check some things. When she returned to the phone she told me the college credits are ONLY available to members of the military, IRS & AgLearn. The customer service rep said the courses might still be worth taking, but she recommended I go through LearningCounts.org to receive credits for the courses. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I'm not 100% sure I believe all of this... I think she may have given me bad information.

Actually the customer service reply makes a lot of sense. I was reading the information about LearningCounts.org on their website a few months ago,
and I did not make the connection. But while there might be a difference in cost. I think that it could be a good alternative to knock off some of
the Computer Science courses required to finish a degree.
