Cost of multiple bachelor degrees?
#1
I've seen quite a few forum members who are either working towards or have already received two or even more bachelor's degrees from the Big Three. I'm just wondering, how much does it actually cost to get multiple degrees this way? Are you able to transfer most of your credits from one degree to the next? And what is the total cost per degree?

I personally am currently beginning an undergrad degree in Cybersecurity through UMUC, but I really want a business degree as well and am seriously considering a TESC BSBA. But I'd like to know the true nature of the costs. I've seen amounts ranging from $2500 to $8000 tossed around here and there...

Also, I ran the cost calculator at TESC given a transfer of 64 credits and CLEP/DSST testing for the remaining 56, and it quoted me I think $89 per tested credit. I'm hoping they meant that is the cost of the CLEP itself, NOT that TESC charges $89 per CLEP just to transcribe it? :ack: I'm military so the tests are free.

Thanks!!

It depends on the school and what your previous degree was in, but in general you can count on all the gen ed requirements transferring at a minimum. I know if you do a degree with EC and then a second degree at EC they transfer about 75% of the courses over (looking at doing this myself).

Since you're military remember that TA only covers the FIRST degree at each level, after that it's out of pocket (CLEP/DSST/ECE are still free of course) or start using your GI Bill benefits. So your first degree should be basically free, second (using the example from EC above) would be needing 30 credits, if all were taken as a class (EC costs about 1k/3cr course) you would be looking at 10k USD. Of course there's plenty of IT and business credits that can be tested out of, and some of those 30 will probably be electives you can fill with anything.

UMUC is a good school, but you might want to look at EC's BS in IT as well. They offer credits for your IT certs, which can cut a lot of courses off (CompTIA, MS, CISCO, etc).

I only have one cert (Security+), but UMUC will "consider" waiving the required Security+ prep course since I already have the cert. Sheesh.

I was thinking of transferring in my CCAF and essentially CLEPing out of a BSBA degree. Out of pocket hopefully < $3,000, or maybe GI Bill.

I will however look at EC's programs again. Part of me would prefer CIS. I love programming (it's my field), almost never get to do it, and am worried about it being outsourced more and more in the future. Sad

A programmer myself, but only way I get to do it (besides for fun) is as an independent contractor. My day job is in IT/Command & Control training for the military.
