Using Alissa's Bachelor's of Liberal Studies breakdown for Excelsior, I decided to see what I find to be the cheapest breakdowns for the Bachelors (with and without GRE tests)

The core outlay is
Admissions $75
Annual Fee (Enrollment) $895
Graduation $495
Total Core Outlay - $1465

Without GRE -
General Education Requirements--9CR in two areas and 6CR in one area

What really hurts this form is the lack of available upper level test credits through DSSTs. (This would change if Excelsior decided to award ACE's recommendation on several refreshed tests)

Obviously, you'd save even more money getting higher than a 55% on the GRE Subject, but I was shooting for baseline.

Edit - Took out Straighterline because the costs outweighed the benefits (compared to three tests) added the transcript fees in, and got rid of the extra $440 fee that I had added in by mistake.

I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

I also have some updated EC plans. I would have posted them sooner, but I was busy with finals last week! Thanks to NAP for looking these over for me!

GRE Literature in English--30 credits--$130--Humanities Requirement & 2nd Depth met
GRE Computer Science--30 credits--$130

CLEP Social Sciences & History-6LL--$80

CLEP Biology--6 LL--$80
CLEP Natural Sciences—6LL--$80

CLEP College Mathematics--6 LL--$80--Math requirement met

UExcel College Writing--$85—3LL-Written English Requirement met

Graduation Fee: $495

Total: $2440 If only it were that easy!

*Excelsior's enrollment fee can be spread out over six monthly payments

** This plan assumes you have one year to complete your degree, since you can't schedule GRE exams whenever you like.

# This plan is almost the same as my earlier cheapest plan for Excelsior, but I think substituting the UExcel exam for the AP exam would be wise, since it would be easier to schedule and also yields a letter grade.

Isn't there a $440 Student Services Fee if you don't take 6 credits minimum through Excelsior?

Edit - Whoops, that's the enrollment fee for the second year on at Excelsior. Fixed the two roadmaps to reflect that, and made other minor changes.

It's also worth mentioning--since this thread lists so many cost-saving measures like Aleks and FEMA--that the National Fire Academy does have two one-credit courses similar to FEMA that can be transcribed on an ACE transcript for just the initial $40 transcription fee, less if you are already using ACE transcripts for Aleks. I think it's worth looking into, especially since the information literacy requirement often puts Excelsior students graduating with 121 rather than the 120 credits needed. These two credits can round out that oddball info lit credit so that you don't have to take a three-credit CLEP or DSST just to get the two credits needed. I meant to rework one of my plans to include this, since it would have saved at least $40. But since I didn't squeeze it in there, here's the link in case anyone would rather use those two free elective credits instead of taking an extra exam: NFA Online Home Page

And remember, just about any way you do a degree through Excelsior, TESC, or Charter Oak will put you in a better position than this guy.
